Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on this 114 I have as the Ulster USA 114 is all on the front of the tang and the number not stamped on the back? I have not seen one like this, Thanks.

114 is the pattern number for this Ulster Camp/Utility knife. They were quite popular with scouts and were also sold thru Sears for much of the 1950's-1960's. Predecessor patterns were made as official Scout knives when Dwight Divine owned the Ulster mark. I am pretty sure they continued thru WWII adapted to military use, and after the war, back in both civilian and Scout guise. I have several of them of different ages. Yours, like most of mine, has the new style safety can opener which was patented in 1945, so is post-war, probably later. Are the covers bone or plastic (Delrin)? Delrin came into use circa 1961.

Throw a Old Timer stamp on the shield and its also the Reynolds Prince Albert camper.
The style sure saw a lot of releases over the years.
Nice.

one of many flyers. this one from 1971. Not there is a 58OT here too.

Thanks Codger,
Not sure what the covers are? Did the Prince Albert series ever make one with a stamp like mine? I was also curious the one that sold for over two hundred dollars on "E" it was stamped 114 on the back of the main blade, I gather that was a very rare design?

I also have a craftsman that looks exactly like the Ulster and says craftsman usa #9467, Codger, did you say you owned some of these also, I thought I read one of your articles and you had some craftsman knives? The covers are a lot redder and lighter in color, the oval shield has craftsman stamped in it and has the same letter size as the OT. By the number on the blade any idea on the year with that? thanks...

Covers are the same as scales...handles. Cover colors varied over the years from brown to black, with some two-tone appearing. I would have to see a Craftsman etch to estimate the age. Craftsman was used from circa WWII until about 1959-60. Then the "crown" logo was used.

Yes, Sears sold these under quite a few numbers. I'll list them when I get time. And yes, the Prince Albert promotion used the 114 with "Old Timer" stamped on the shield, essentially a 114OT.

9502 - (1961)
9528 - (1963)
9549 - (1966)
9533 - ??
This is by no means a comprehensive list, just what I have confirmed to date. Also of note is that some Sears numbers were often reused on other patterns prior and post.

9469 - Ulster 115 (1959)
9467 - Ulster 115 (1960)
9489 - Ulster 116 (1961)

Thanks again for the info Codger.
The Craftsman and 114 have the same looking Delrin covers, may be that narrows the age on the 114?
