Hello,

In this age of custom collaborations, which maker/factory combo would you most like to see happen?

I think Bob Dozier and Ka-Bar are made for each other.

The one I'm dreaming about is the Outdoor Edge, Ray Appleton COSMOS, it's been delayed about a year, darn it.
A Dozier knife really isn't out of reach for most of us.
How many of us will ever have the chance to hold let alone own something designed by Ray Appleton?

Or, just as good would be a Tim Herman/ Frost Cutlery collaboration. I know that Frost has been accused of not heat treating their blades, but how much of a knife do you need just to cut the cheese?

My personal fantasy dream team would be a colaboration piece made by Yoshindo Yoshihara and Virgil England. *Warning* reading the above may cause convulsions

Rainy Vallotton and Microtech.... I think a Vallotton has already done something with them eh?

Steve Ryan / Spyderco.

A big folder, maybe with one of those cool mutant Wharncliffe patterns like in the new TK. He must already have some kind of agreement to licence the "trademark round hole" anyway...

Canadian Bryan Lyttle and Case. I would love to see one of his lockbacks made affordable.

My pick for Factory/Custom would have to be William Henry and W.D. Pease, Don Hanson III, Joe Kious, or other top notch maker of gent's folders.

As far as custom collaborations, there are too many to list. I have a TKCL Bailey Bradshaw/David Broadwell knife coming in a few months that looks really promising.

Among other things . . . .

A Tim Herman Sliver by Edge-Tech, maybe after the Appleton project is ready for customer's pockets. With the flute CNC-machined into the handles. Adds to the flow of a realy elegant design. Maybe a 2 7/8" version and a 2" necklace version.

A frame-lock version of the Boguszewski Mini-Spike from CRKT, after the Hammond-Mirage frame lock is ready for customers' pockets, now that Benchmade has moved on to other things. Somebody should be producing Spikes besides the usual suspects making the cheap clones.

A couple or three R.W. Loveless designs, made by Moki (Beretta label or anybody else's), done up in micarta and a satin finish as "users" instead of collectibles in their own right.

A set of four or five basic kitchen knives by a first-rate manufacturer, designed by a first-rate custom maker.

Actually, I suspect that if some enterprise hired an ABS Master Smith to design a Bowie knife to be made in Pakistan or elsewhere in South Asia, and to train the local production people to make a knife to international "custom" standards from carbon steel, hardwood, and brass, and they aimed at a target retail price in US$ of $100 or so instead of $20, they'd have a product to reckon with.
