Sounds to me like your looking for a Benchmade 710 (get the M2 steel). You might also look at the Spyderco large Wegner (very smooth and solid) or Starmate (love the blade shape and steel), also excellent knives. The 710 is just better in about all aspects and the Axis lock kicks serious booty!

K man, How about the MOD "Tempest"? This is a rock solid knife with a blade of almost 3.5" of 154CM steel. It has an aluminum handle with rubber instert and is constructed very similar to the Microtech line of knives in terms of quality, style and materials. This is one stout knife with a very thick liner lock that is extremely solid on my Tempest. From the posts I've read Masters of Defense has a good warranty/service record. The only criteria that doesn't match what you are looking for is the handle. I have to second the Spyderco Starmate which is another outstanding knife. It is also light/slim and very easy to carry either in the pocket or clipped inside the pants to the rear. It uses a very good steel also and Sypderco is also respected for their great customer service.

You just gave a perfect description of one and only one knife - REKAT Sifu. It's a great knife and there's nothing else in its class.

I was going to suggest the REKAT Sifu, but it is 6 & 3/4 inches long when closed, so I'll suggest the REKAT Carnivour as the folder that you are looking for.:).

Spyderco Native FRN.

On the smaller end of the size spectrum you listed. CPM440V steel. Sturdily built, with a good lock back. Grippy FRN handle. Very versatile blade configuration. Completely ambidextrous. Very ergonomic. Will serve you well, if need be, as a self defense knife. Just about $50. Just about one of the best damn knives out there, IMO. The $30 extra is to make up for no G-10 handles.

Of course, I also second the nomination of the Wegner. Though a linerlock, it is a very good one. And, the blade has a long ricasso, so that should the lock fail on you for some reason, your finger will not get cut. It has the G-10 and ATS34 blade.

I'd also cast a vote for the BM 710. In the M2 version, it is up there, IMHO, with the best of the manufactured blades. If stainless steel is more appropriate for your conditions, the ATS34/154CM version is also a winner.

Yes, BM 710 :).... but Axis AFCK would be better and Axis AFCK with Talonite blade would be the ultimate folder for me!!

BM 940. I looks wimpy next to the other BM's mentioned here. This weekend I took the shelf paper out of the kitchen cabinets this weekend and I used my 940 and I was really impressed. The blade shape is very efficient and this knife is a sleeper IMHO and it has the axis lock which I like because I am left handed.

One more vote for BM 710, of course in M2 and I like it with aluminum handles better :)

My vote would be an Emerson Commander. There has been a lot of debate concerning Emerson, in BladeForums, but it is, without a doubt, the best folding knife I own (I actually own two of them). Second choice would be a SERE 2000.

I also own a BM710. I like it but the Commander feels better and I like to depend on a lock I can see. Strictly personal view of course. Also my Benchmade came with the most dull blade I ever received. I simply sharpened it up rather than sent it back. My own choice, but I hear their customer service is great.

I own a SIFU also. I like it very much because it is really an oddity. It doesn't feel quite as stable to me, but I believe that is simply because the handle is so long. Also, as with the BM710, I like to depend on a lock I can see. Both the Axis and the SIFU lock are hidden. Don't get me wrong, as I hear both are very good overall. I have heard of of few SIFU locks slipping, but never an Axis Lock.

Some suggestions in no particular order

Spyderco Chinook (on the heavier side)
Spyderco Viele (it's Micarta but it excells at every other area)
Spyderco Police in G-10
SOG Vision (G-10)

I had the REKAT Carni & Carni Cub on there because they are great knives but they did not meet a few of your criteria.

There are probably 100 others out there so it's never an easy choice.

Spyderco's Lum Tanto is an EXCELLENT choice if you're looking for a tanto blade.
Also, Keep in mind the Microtech LCC; which maybe you're perfect knife.

I have been planning to get a similiar knife for some time. I would suggest you look at the SERE 2000, and the Buck/Strider 880. I have heard good things about both knives. They seem to be built solidly, but ahven't personally handeled them.

The Microtech LCC I do have, and is an excellent knife. you could go for the canvas micarta scales, or carbon fibre. This would be an excellent choice unless G-10 scales are a must.

Within the priceline you set, here are my choices for the best of the best in no particular order:

Spyderco Chinook
BM 710 in M-2
REKAT Carnivour in mod D-2
Microtech LCC large

Of course, there are others, but these are my personal favorites.
The only reason I did not include the REKAT Sifu is because it exceeds the length limit you set.

Also, I included the Microtech LCC because, even though it does not have G-10 handles(it has Carbon fiber and Titanium bolster IIRC), it may very well be your ultimate EDC. It's well worth checking into.
Rotsa Ruck GI!:D

Is the Chinook to heavy for an edc? And are the Chinook and the Starmate good cutters? What about the Sere 2000? I was sold on it because of Jeff Randall's review but am having second thoughts because I want to stick with a larger company with a very good record like spyderco.
