ultimate survival knife!!??

It's a bit too big for the front pocket, but it's great for a belt or a pouch. I really like it, great working knife, very comfortable.

For an unlimited time ?

1 - Tramontina Bolo/Machete : It's worth 10 bucks, easy to sharpen and maintain, and tremendous chopping power, even on large, hard wood. You can chop a 4" thick maple with 5-6 cuts, if you do it well. Maybe it's just me, or maybe I don't know how to use a hatchet properly, but to me a bolo chops better... even on real wood :footinmou

2 - A pretty good quality, decent sized fixed blade (say 6-7 inches) : Camillus USMC, BK7, Buck 110 or 120, you name it. There are better knives, but it has to be maintainable in the field with just about any stone you find... It must not break either. I'd go for a RC under 59.

3 - A skinner : Buck 103 is my personal choice, but there are others. A short, rounded blade. A gut hook can be helpful, too.

4 - A good folder : Again, under 59 RC. CRKT M16 (tanto point), or something like that.

Cheers,

David
