Ultimate Survival Knife

Pardon my asking, but what type of environment do you need this knife for; and how much outdoors experience do you have?

From your other post, it seems to me you are looking for a thick combat knife, not a useful outdoors knife.

The "perfect survival knive" many have found to be a mystical creature. Many have heard of one and hope that it really exists only to find out that what someone thought "did it all" was lacking in some way or another. Most of us have just broken down and continued to carry multiple knives that serve different purposes. I always carry my heavy duty knife for chopping and camp work, a medium knife for simple jobs and food prep, a SAK or multitool complete with saw, and a backup just in case. I've also added the CS Trailhawk to the lineup for gather firewood, trees and branches for shelter and hammering needs.

Many times, even I have thought that I found "the one that could do it all", but to be honest, I found that I would save a ton of time and effort by sacrificing a little weight in the pack and carrying more than one tool. I think you'll find this is the case too.

Regarding environment mostly mid-west wooded areas, perhaps some grand canyon-like areas. I am a former Marine, which may explain my 'combat' style preference; I just like a beefy knife. I am looking for a knife between your grandfathers old-timer and the ultimate fighter, basically a beefed up survival.

I think you may have nailed it in your other thread. The Bravo 1 was designed specifically by BRKTfor a Marine recon unit who tested it against other knife designs. It's a beefy knife; but not too heavy or bulky for survival uses.

Good luck in your search.

Hey Max,

I'm still looking for the perfect survival knife too, so when you finally find it, let me know! :D

Good luck on the search and keep us posted on what works for you.

One of the fine makers in the custom forum should be able to help you out. I have had knives made by many of the guys around here and they were all top notch. Best bet is to sketch out what you want and send it to the maker. Then they can discuss it better with you.

Every knife you get is the PERFECT one until you spot another !!!

I am getting very close now though !!!!!!

You might also look at the BRKT Bravo-1. If I'm not mistaken, the USMC Recon folks had a whole lot to do with the design.

I don't know which knife is "perfect" but I liked my Buck 119 until I came across the Fallkniven F1. If only I could get a left-handed sheath!

I enjoy a knife I'm not afraid to use. Some of these high-end custom jobs may be great knives but I'd hate to actually use one!

Welcome to WSS, CSG! I know what you mean about enjoying 'useable' knives. That's one of the big perks of the Mora's to me.

Thanks. Been reading it for a little while and will comment on occasion if I have anything to add. So, about that left-handed sheath for an F1? ;)

Have you tried Normark at OnScene Tactical? He does some great looking kydex and posts around here. I'm sure he could come up with something for you!

From his site:
Q : Are your Sheaths Left Hand Friendly ?

A : Yes, Absolutely they are. Most On/Scene Tactical sheaths are Ambidextrous and can be used both Left and Right as well as Inside and Outside of the pant. Being left handed myself,, I know what it's like..

Here is the nearest I have found so far...
