I have that kit. The blastmatch works as advertised, but it's bulky and a bit flimsy. If it breaks, you'll still have this huge chunk of mish metal that will last you for years as a conventional fire starter.

The saw is probably the best design of its kind. Certainly better than those stupid wire saws that always break.

I like the Fox 40 whistle better than the Jet Stream whistle it comes with, but the Jet Stream is flatter and easier to pack.

The mirror is cool and can be aimed with one hand, but it's plastic and the glass ones are much brighter, and therefore can be seen further away. The advantage of the plastic is it's not as prone to break.

The case is nice, but as others have mentioned, it's bulky and it's probably better to put the original components into a regular pack and use the case to protect things that are more prone to breakage or water damage, like your cell phone.

Haven't had a problem with the tinder drying out (yet) but putting the stuff in a baggie is probably a good idea. The advantage of that stuff is a little of it goes a long way and it does work when wet.

I would not buy the wetfire starters. I have found that the Weber cubes for charcoal seem like the same thing. Larger and more cubes for the money. Just scrap some dust on the top of the cube and use your ferro rod. Just did it yesterday in the snow. I use the ferro rods from Going Gear and customize my own. I was showing a friend the difference betweenl the LMF and the my ferro rod. Quick flash with the LMF, sparks bouncing off the garage door with mine. He was impressed.

Hmm, I would only buy the kit if you do not own any of the items included,
that way, you can add stuff you do not have into a kit with the money you
do not have. Hope this makes since, Damian.
