Ultimate ZT EDC!!!!!!!!!

"Variety is the spice of life".

There's ample room for all types of users and collectors in the expanding and diversified ZT universe :)

I'm curious if you're referring to the 0566? The reason I ask is that I emailed ZT/KAI USA approx. 6mos ago expressing my interest in a 3" (max) version of the 0560/61 asking if they had plans to ever release this version, and their reply was no. Do you have some new info?

Yes I believe he IS referring to the 566. Blade length will be 3.25" so technically KAI was correct when they told you they were not releasing a 3" max Mini 560/561! Last I heard was a third quarter release date. I can't wait but in the mean time my current EDC are the Cryo and a Para 2 (one clipped in pocket and the other in my EDC pack).

I would love a smaller 3" 0560. Especially since anything over 3" blade length in my area is illegal. This isnt a matter of the other knives not be adequate but against the law to carry in public. And no, I dont think the 0566 is anymore a smaller version of the 0560 than a 0350 is. Virtually every option that got me interested in the 0560 except the blade steel and overall shape of the knife is missing from the 0566. I can live without the titanium. But I really only collect and carry bearing flippers these days. I know it might sound petty. But I dont care for washers anymore and to me its just not the same to take a A/O and rip out the torsion bar. I like bearings, simple as that.

I have a CRKT Eros. I think it weighs less than an eyelash. I love the knife, but I don't see why ZT would make a knife that's competitive with that.

I'm basically in agreement with PURPLEDC. The 0566 is of absolutely no interest to me either. But I'm a little more forgiving than he is about the need for all of my knives to contain bearing pivots. I can even live with AO if everything else adds up. Fortunately for me, the 0770CF adds up. So I'm willing to set aside my issues with the 0566. But that doesn't mean ZT and Rick should.

Here's the real issue as I see it. By failing to address the smaller end of the XM-18 market, ZT and Rick have left a vacuum for disreputable manufacturers to fill, and they've been busy doing just that. Moreover, contrary to what a very vocal but badly misinformed group of zealots would have people believe, not all of the knives those manufacturers produce are garbage. I therefore contend that there's a legitimate reason for concern. I'm not sure if that's a sufficiently compelling reason for ZT and Rick to get their heads together and create a true 3" version of the 0560, but I sure hope it is . . . at least at some point in the future.

I don't see why not other than some thinking that it's not "compatible" with the "hard-use" image of Zero Tolerance Knives (“built like a tank” or “a real beast”). Perhaps ZT should name itself "Diversity" or as BLD522 suggested "Mildly Tolerant Knives". :) Certainly not something like "Intolerance Knives" :D

The CRKT K455TXP Ken Onion Eros Gentleman's Folder with 3" premium Acuto+ stainless steel Blade (59-60 HRC) is a marvel of featherweight (1.4 oz.) and strength with titanium frame lock build operating via IKBS.

The 566 won't be for me either, no Ti scale, and it looks to be a much more square/blocky handle similar to the 550 than the nice rounded 560 handle.

I have very mixed feelings on the bearing pivot, when it's clean I love it, super smooth, and when I was inside most of time or the knife spent much of it's time in my pocket it was great. However, I do a lot of field work in a very dry fine dust areas using my knife outside and it only takes a week or two before I have to pull the knife down and clean those bearings out. With a normal bushing pivot I probably only need to do that every 6 months. I've actually contemplated having some brass bushings machined that would fit it.
