Description: Mastersmith Al Pendray is well known for re-discovering the lost art of creating wootz. Wootz, with its intricate crystalline grain pattern, is the original damascus -- what pattern welded damascus developed from. The technique for making wootz was originally discovered around 300AD. By combining wrought iron and charcoal in a crucible, a steel was created that out-performed all other metals at that time. Unfortunately, the technique for making wootz was lost in the mid 1750s. It was not until the early 1990s that Al Pendray re-discovered this lost skill.
The blade is formed from Al's wootz and have an intricate crystalline pattern inherent to the steel. On the left side, Al has inlaid his mark in 24 kt gold. Pendray Folders are Extremely Rare. Stag handles are beautiful! Condition is pristine for a 25 plus year old knife. Priced at $3500 dollars. Call or PM Andy at 1-270-889-7074. Thanks! Andy
