Ultra-small, comfortable neckers?

I've been EDCing a Hideaway for about a year now, and for casual situations I'll just hang it outside my shirt on its bead chain. I also have a fondness for my Boker Edit which I keep in my change pocket or in a Mercharness, but have really fallen head over heels for the idea of a tiny, but hand-friendly fixed blade that's ready around my neck while looking almost decorative in a Spartan way. My red-corded HAK is one of my favorites depending on what I'm wearing, the black one sees more use for concealed carry as it blends in. I'm fine with my EDC as is, but taking so strongly to this kind of knife and this kind of carry has me poking around for similar knives that I can loan to friends, hang around my place to keep them in arms-reach, or just to have around to enjoy.

While I could just settle for anything cheap and tiny, I'm looking for very affordable models that have a larger, comfortable handle so you can realistically use it despite the small blade. The Chad Los Banos designs are famous for this, others like some TOPS knives have a similar concept going for them, hand-filling little blades that are just handy without the extra weight and without sacrificing control. Smaller blades are preferred, urban lifestyle with a lack of deer to skin or logs to baton, I prefer smaller blades that don't attract attention and don't have too much steel for everyday use. While the charm of neck-carry is a personal plus for me, having a versatile carry option where I could stuff it in a pocket or clip it onto something would be nice.

Cost-wise...I'm looking to start a collection of trinkets to toy with, not replace my custom-EDC which has me covered ten times over. Cheap is fine, I don't need super-steels or custom finishes, even if they're ugly as heck I can appreciate a nice design that can be used in a kit or kept around as a possible gift for an interested friend. I can appreciate some quirky little cutters, but nothing too tactical, push daggers and glorified shanks do nothing for me.

Is there much of a market for small, almost token-like little neckers that get the job done without being custom jewelry pieces or bombproof box cutters?

A cord wrapped Buck Kaala. I can show you how to wrap one and use the stock sheath if need be, just email me.

Simonich Bitteroot if they're still around. It's the one by itself on the bottom, 1.5" blade.
Strider ED is larger but very light, on the far left, 2.25" blade.
Crawford Necker is third from left, even lighter, and extremely sharp.

You're probably not looking for a La Griffe, but that is similar to the others, only not as utilitarian.

Edit to add: BRK&T Micro-Slither, 1.75" blade, enough handle for a good two-finger grip.

The Hartsook and Dogfish are options, along with that new 'Minimalist' CRKT did...I have wondered about the Izula before, wouldn't mind giving RAT a try. The Becker is a bit out of my size range, looking for something more Chicago-friendly, the bowie look would set off red flags with the crowd I'm surrounded by.

Personally, I prefer a finger hole for indexing & retention. My favorites are the HAK, Emerson La Griffe, & Spyderco SPOT (Getting harder to find, though). I currently have a HAK, La Griffe, & the knives mentioned below.

For a conventional small knife, all the ones mentioned are excellent. However, I've really come to like the Ranger Little Bird (4" OAL with a 1.75" blade & 1095 steel) & the BM 210 or 211 (5.5" OAL with a 2 1/8" S30V or D2 blade). I don't know about the Bitterroot, but I personally found the Nemesis Hellion & Buck Hartsook to be too small for comfortable use. However, my hands are large (My Brum HAK is size 5.5")

Good luck with whatever you get.

Simonich Bitteroot if they're still around.

The Simonich Bitteroot has become very scarce.
AFAIK they're no longer being produced - and they're rarely seen in the aftermarket.

Ethan Becker had this to say about it, right here on BF:

By the way I find that the smaller the knife the more difficult it is to make it all work right which is why I am stll
consumed with admiration for Rob Simonich's incredible little BITTERROOT which is the distlled essence of knife....
If you do not know it check it out......

High praise indeed.

I've had a REKAT Hobbit Fang that is a great concealable, practical EDC for quite a few years. Just pulled it out and brought the edge back and it's back in rotation.

I have this on its way to me right now....

I stole the pic from Stomper (JK Handmade knives), the description is his too,he calls it a mini-Nessmuck.

The price was very reasonable, and he offers a few smallish standard models as well.

"Just having some fun with bar ends. This one is 4 1/8" overall, with a 1 1/2" blade of 1/8" O1. It`s got walnut handles. Asking SOLD shipped with kydex neck sheath."

With his measurements it is a close match to my little Buck (Hartsook) Smidgen in OAL length as well as blade length.

When it gets here I can post my own pics and a short review If you'd like.

Another vote for the Hartsook/Smidgen. Ultra light, ultra small, and a form of retention you aren't going to have to be constantly worrying about. :)

Check out SwissBianco's NeckAngel!
Excellent knife and he makes a few others that are even a bit smaller that are not on his website:

The website appears to still be a bit of a work in-process, but e-mail and you'll get a quick reply. SwissBianco is a great guy and I've had several transactions with him.

Regards,
Mike
