I designed this tool to fit in my kayak for an upcoming trip. I needed something that was fairly light that would cut small firewood and could also be used as a camp knife. I have shown it to a few people with good reviews so I have built another one to post here. Let me know what you think.

(I have used my axe to cut leather, chop vegetables and skin a whitetail; it worked fine for me.)

1/4 inch 1095 tool steel
Convex (axe) ground
Mirror finish on the grind with a mill texture on the rest
Tapered tang
All edges are rounded for comfort in the hand
Stabilized curly maple handle
Overall length: 7 1/2 inches
Sharpened edge: 3 3/4 inches
Weight: 1 pound 1 oz with the sheath.
Riveted leather sheath included

$180 -----SOLD-----shipped to the US or Canada. Paypal (my account is gldrewknives@yahoo.com ) or money order accepted.

I love mine. If anyone wants a recommendation, I will give one for this axe. It does a great job at multitasking, ie chopping, cutting, and skinning.

Now that's cool! Great lookin piece and I especially love the mirror finish on just the edge.

This looks fantastic!
I don't think I have ever seen an axe with a tapered tang before.

It takes a little weight off the axe and moves the balance toward the head. (And I have to show off a little to prove that I can taper a tang.)

That is a great little handy concept. I like it better than my much loved Mini-GB (which says a lot!!)...I think you got a winner with that one..I will keep you in mind if I need another small axe..

I was lucky enough to hold this one a few weeks back and told Gerry that this would be another signature blade of his. Reeealy beautiful flowing lines, expert workmanship and some great (unique) functionality. Love it and, yes, I'm going to get one of these some time in 2008.

The 1/4" steel adds some great heft - no qualms about banging the back of the head against a wooden stake. IMO, it is a little too pretty to be banging on rocks...but would do the trick. Per the pictures above, it's really not designed to cut down trees due to the short handle, but it certainly would do so better than any knife this size.

A great all-around camp and wilderness knife/ulu/axe concept - very well done. This is a blade that will make the other rugged types go "ooooooh"!

I have to agree with El Queso. I thnk this will be one of your signature blades. I bet you can sell all you want to make.

Looks like it would make for a great axe for use when setting rabbit snares. Only change I'd make would be to add a hole for a wrist lanyard. Should be ideal for chopping the odd branch out of the way or cutting an extra anchor stick for snaring.
