I thought I'd try out my Ulu today at making Fuzz sticks and man did this thing suprise me !!!
It's only a cheapish stainless version but it's cuts were real precise and it slid through like butter. The factory edge was quite poor having a large burr but a couple of minutes with my diamond hone and it's like a razor !!!
I can only hazard a guess at how a quality one such as Maynard Linder makes would perform !!!!!

Maybe they have a place in our backwoods arsenal !

I love ulus! I have always wanted to get something other than a cheapy to try out in the woods. Knives of Alaska makes some pretty nice user ulus.

The Inuit people have used Ulu's in the wilderness for thousands of years. They are their go to knife for most of their gsme and food processing needs. A very useful and versatile tool.

Old table saw blades make nice pocket-sized Ulus.

Little automobile door trim for the edge and Bob's yer uncle. :)

That's what I'm talkin about...those are the real deal !!!;)

This was the first Ulu I made.... the customer has emailed me everytime he uses it for some new task. In 3 weeks it is moose season and we will see how it performs at its intended purpose. There is much more to this design than meets the eye. This project has opened my eyes to their usefullness.

Yes well said... I have been finding out they are great for all kinds of tasks, your ulu looks great ! Like that sheath

You`ve gotta careful with the ones with the open grp like the original poster`s. Most states would consider them knuckle dusters and therefore illegal as all get out. The traditional pattern is fine as far as I know.
