It's been a while since I've made one of these. I forged this one nice and thin for slicing
Forged from 52100 high carbon steel
Heat treated to Rc 58-60 with attention to a fine grain structure throughout the blade
The blade is about 1/16 inch thick at the spine with at slight convex grind
Stabilized cherry burl handle
7 inches tip to tip, blade depth is 2 inches and 5 inches from the top of the handle to the center of the cutting edge
The finger opening is 1 3/4 inches deep and 3 1/8 inches wide. Lots of room for three fingers or even four fingers inside the opening
It does take some getting used to using one of these but the native Alaskans have been using them for years to prepare fish and butcher game.
I did make a quick leather edge cover for folks who might want to take it camping
