Umfaan

Never any pressure - It is a generous act to post your Umfaan, and is appreciated!! :D

This may be a dumb question but, what is a Umfaan? I'm new to CRK and just bought a classic large Sebenza about 2 weeks ago.

Sorry I didn't see the post above me. They look just like a unique graphic to me.

The Umfaan is a smaller brother to the small seb. A miniture Seb if you will. They have been discontinued. A real neat little knife cute I would say. They are very hard to find. I have a plain left hand model and would have to be crazy or very hard up to part with it. ;) :p

Interesting that no one ever asks 'bout my NIB Zig Zag Umfaan? They ARE still available...(here)

Ok I am asking ~ what about your NIB Zig Zag Umfaan?

LOL! I'd forgotten I'd found that street sign in Charleston (SC) IIRC. I kinda thought it was fun to see that sign - with the VERY first thing coming to mind is my Umfaan. A picture of it is above the original posting. I still have that Zig-Zag Umfaan. Absolutely wonderful knives. And Thanks!

Seems like there have been a lot of them on eBay in the last few months--three just sold in the last week or so--when sometimes you could go a year or more without ever seeing one. Anyone have any opinions why?

--Umfaan owners saw the auction that started this post and figured they'd sell while the market was up?

--They need to pay Xmas bills?

--They found out CRK's secret plan to resume production of the original Umfaan and sell them for $50 so they wanted to unload theirs first??

Bills, price of gas, and that leads to the new and interesting prices on milk and eggs and....
I don't know - folks seem to see a wagon passing and wanta jump on it and join. I'm a bit cynical on it. I buy what I like and hardly ever sell.

I wish they would just bring the Umfaan back into production. Most of us would like to have one if we don't already.

I just received my first Umfaan this morning and I must confess that this is one of the best little knives I have ever had.

Actually, as I work in a big office in the middle of Paris, I think it is the best little EDC I could have : thinner than the Mnandi, less agressive than the Autobenchmite, as strong as a sebenza, it is easy to carry in a suit and do not frighten people which are not used to see knives in this context.

I have been lucky to find this one, and I really hope CRK will bring them back in the catalog...

Question: Do most of you collect Umfaan's to put in a drawer and look at them once in a while or do you use them as an EDC. I have an XL size hand and the Mnandi is actually too small for my mitt. I use a Small Seb on a daily basis and pull out the large about 25% of the time.

I was just looking on eBay and one person is selling a complete set while there's another Umfaan for sell by another seller on there. Pretty interesting.

I don't carry my Umfaan. I bought it because I liked the Sebenzas.

I would buy and carry an Umfaan in the bottom of my left pocket (the way I carry my BM 335 2003 LE), if CRK changed the thumbstud on the Umfaan.
The current Umfaan thumbstud is too small and pointy for me.

The Small Seb is too large for an office use but I love its design, so my only possibility was to afford an Umfaan, for all the aforesaid reasons.

I do use it as an EDC because I wear a suit all the time and a larger knife would be useless for me and would make me look dangerous...:(
