I recently scored this Umnumzaan and I've been wanting to get a couple pics up to see what you guys think of it. It's been modified by Tom Mayo, and I believe the only one he's ever done. It's got his signature holes, he blasted all the ti and hardware to a nice smooth finish, and re-shaped the thumb-stud cut outs for easier opening. I love the feel of it, but doubt that it will ever see any use! Let me know what you think.

I honestly like Mayo'd Sebenzas better. I just don't think the Umnumzaan looks all that good with holes in it. What I do like about it is that the holes match up on both sides so you can see through it...that's pretty cool :).

Thanks for the feedback guys. And BTW- Mods, please feel free to move this if it doesn't belong here. I understand that Chris Reeve Knives pays for this subforum and may not want it used as a place where other's work is highlighted but it seemed like the most logical place to post these pics.

Mayo's attention to detail is pretty amazing. the scallop on the lock bar looks pretty radical.

Did you commission the work, or did you happen across it on the forums?

Dang I'm really liking this knife a lot!!!!!
Let me know if you ever want to get rid of it.

I foresee Nathan aka ZippoThisKnifeThat falling in love with this. He has a thing for lightning holes.

Congratulations on your new score!

Everytime I see the "holes" I imagine all the dust and pocket lint invading through them.

Any real issue with that?

That's an interesting piece to be sure, the blasted pivot and screws real look good, but if i'm to be honest the thumb stud cut outs look terrible IMO.

That's awesome! Without a doubt the coolest umnum I have seen thus far. If you ever need anyone to put some good use on it just send it over my way :D

I agree, the cut outs look very crudely done and throws the lines of the knife way off balance. The lockbar looks wrecked.

I agree, that scallop is a wreck. :thumbdn:

Rest of it looks pretty nice though, not sure I like all the holes but at least the holes look clean compared to the lockbar.

How does that tanto cut? Im really wanting one, but I cannot decide between the Insingo or the Umnumzaan.
