I'd like to see if any of you can help me with figuring out what these marks are on the blade of my Umnumzaan. These marks are only visible when viewed at certain angles. To be clear, these are not just fingerprint marks or smudges. I wiped the blade off very well before taking these pictures. I got this Umnumzaan from a forum member here. Other than these marks the knife is fine. I'm just not sure what could have caused this type of marking or discoloration and want to make sure that they don't represent a physical or material problem.

Here are a couple of pics at an angle where the mark isn't visible.

Looks like the blade might have come in contact with something that caused a chemical reaction/stain??

If it was MY knife, id be pulling out some sort of metal polish like "Flitz" or "Never Dull" and see what i could do. Sure is a strange blemish.

Residue of some sort, have you tried cleaning it with an alcohol based solution or acetone, lacquer thinner works also. Lighter fluid is not as strong, but it cleans pretty well.

What the guys said above, or try some Simichrome Polish, it also works.
It looks like some kind of residue, as Lemmuhj said, I don't think there is any material problem with the steel, it almost looks like it was dipped in some kind of liquid and then dried off on it. Just my two cents.
Might want to try Ajack's suggestion first and then the polish if it doesn't work.

If the polish gets it off, and the blade finish is not to your liking, Kidcongo made a thread about a home stone wash process.
Or, you'll have to send it to CRK for a stonewash job.

If you use something like Mother's Mag on a rag, and give it a light rub by hand, you won't change the finish much...it'll just be 'brighter' and a little shinier. Stay away from the dremel! Hand polish first.
