Umnumzaan lock up failing

It's perfect if I don't open it like I am scared to death of it.

Well there you go...just open that sucker like you're not scared of it and you'll be fine. No need to send it in if it locks up like it's supposed to when you open it like you're supposed to.

What I don't understand is people saying they don't condone a spine whack test. If The lock fails with minimal or moderate pressure why even have a lock on the knife?

This reminds me too much of that farcical-Poland-super-abuse thread. I thinl I'm getting scared. :)

still think its wierd. my zaan locks up tight even if i open the blade at snail speed.

My Umnumzaan locks up good and solid no matter how I open it. I actually tried to get the lock to fail just now by trying to get the detent to just engage the blade tang but the lock just jumps to the sweet spot every time.

Just a question though, could it be that yours has been worn in by now? Most of the people stating that no matter how hard they open it it sits perfectly have been carrying an Umnumzaan for some time now.

I still think its normal for a new Umnumzaan to function like this as the Orings are still new and the knife is still in its breaking in period.

I agree with Death's Head. I reminds me of the story of the guy who did not want to "mess up" his new motorcycle so he shifted it very slowly and carefully. Of course this allowed the different parts to grind for a way longer period than it should if he just shifted the darn thing. Use the knife and use if properly and there shouldn't be a problem. Lets not look for problems when there really aren't any. (However, if there is a problem CRK will take care of it!)

Mine has locked up perfectly from the day I opened the box. Slow, fast, doesn't matter. Best knife I have seen hands down. The design will also likely make it the longest lasting one as well.
