Umnumzaan: Modifying and Customizing

So I carry two knives with me. My Umnumzaan, and a Leatherman Wave, that acts as my utility knife. Boxes, tape, string, all go to the Leatherman. The Umnum is strictly an EDC backup. Its there whenever I absolutely have have have to cut the living crap out of something.+

fair enough...

It just seemed odd that you use a $400 knife as a backup for a $100 one.. but to each his own I suppose... Its a beautiful knife isnt it :)

Been my EDC for a while now and I absolutely love it!

Are you an EMT now and want to become a paramedic or starting from scratch? I, too, have had to break a car window exactly one time in 7 years. It just doesn't happen.

Good on you for carrying a backup though. Knife, multitool, flashlight, and shears and you'll be set for 99.99% of everything you'll encounter.

I'm in school to become an EMT, then enroll into paramedic school. I just like having the option on my knives. I understand that swinging an arm into a window is less than ideal, which is why I've got a auto-punch on my shears pouch. '

I've got three rules I try to follow:

1: Always be prepared.
This not only entails some basic equipment, but mainly follows the mindset and knowledge.
2: Always have a backup.
Again, not only just basic equipment. eg, a flashlight, and maybe a lighter, or your cellphone's flash, but always the mindset. Always sort of having the mental capacity to think "what can I substitute this with"
3. Always know where you are going
Not just the ability to point where North is. But to think in a linear fashion "Okay, after this, I go here. After that, I go there"

If my leatherman can punch out a window, then I'd be set for not having one on my Microtech or substituting an Umnum for Sebenza. But until I get a spare window to try on....
