Umnumzaan opening

Is it just me or after you get the hang of opening the Umnumzaan it's just plain awesome? My wife is definitely sick of me opening and closing my Zaan all the darn time. There is just something about the motion, I can't get enough.

I'm pretty new to the CRK world. I got my first CRK (Sebenza) about a month ago then my Zaan about a week later, and now I have a small 21 on the way. I had the typical problems that some people have when I first got the Umnumzaan. I couldn't open the darn thing. The motion is much different then almost all other knives I have handled (I'm not that seasoned BTW) The detent is also much stronger than my Sebenza. I read a few posts here and watched a video or two and realized what I was doing wrong. Now I want all my knives to have the same motion. It's very fluid and feels amazing.

I love the look of the "old pivot" style Umnumzaan so I think that is what I will be on the hunt for next. I didn't only drink the CRK koolaide but I'm bathing in that crap and enjoying every minute.

BTW, here is the video that helped the most with getting used to opening it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ39jGaOFrU

Welcome to the club.
It took me a while to fully appreciate my Umnumzaan but now I love it.

I plan on picking up an extra set of screws/spacer and adding them to the lanyard hole, an idea I got from a poster named Norvox.(Seen here)
After that I'll tie a lanyard to the new spacer, like on the 25.

Actually my Zaan(s) helped teach me a better way to open a lot of my other knives. The exact same motion/method is perfect for a Benchmade 710 for example (only thing my son will carry, he loves those things).

I saw that mod today and really like it. I'm not a huge lanyard fan so I might give that a try as well.

I can totally see that being true. I've handled knives in the past where I thought they were hard to open where the owner / dealer had no problems. I just thought it was my horribly weak thumbs :-)

Welcome to the sickness.... :D

Well, hopefully I can keep the sickness under control or there will be a lot more purses and shoes on order from the wife. I already owe her a few as it is.

Trying to keep my distance from Mnandis because I know that one is going to suck me in bad when it happens.

Knowing how I get into things that assessment might not be far off.

I've been teetering on taking that small TNK tanto off your hands for a while now.

It can be a tough one to come by at times, and it can be yours! :D

Now that is an amazing assortment of folding art.
Is that the entirety of your CRK collection? I thought you had other graphic Sebenzas.

That pic is so out dates that it's real value is humor. I've more than tripled the number of graphic Sebs, added several more inlayed, and sold or traded most of the plain ones there. Replaced most of them since then, too. That pic is a cool moment in history for me. It's a bit like my avatar. That was an accurate pic of my Hinderer collection for about a week. :D

That's too funny. I'd definitely be interested in an updated collection shot if you ever get around to it.

I once had 4 Sebenzas and thought that was 2 too many. Now that I'm down to one Sebenza and one Umnumzaan I'm thinking I need a few more. Debating between a small vs small Insingo for park and city friendly use/carry.

I only wish I still had the large Regular in BG42 that I'd carried on my last two deployments to Iraq. We chewed a lot of sand together.

For normal, everyday use the 21 is probably a better choice. The Insingo is great, but a bit more limited in use. If you need a wharnie style blade, though, it's a great knife.

Appreciate the input.
I've actually been leaning toward the regular. I had a chance to get one with micarta in my hand when I visited the Knives Ship Free store front last week. I liked the feel and appreciate the edge/belly a bit more. I'll probably keep it plain though.

yeah i took me a while to get the opening of the zaan. almost have to push parallel to the knife. loved the norvox mod. i think CRK is gonna get flooded with calls on monday.
"WHAT? YOUR OUT OF STANDOFFS? COME ON." is gonna be somebody's day. hope its not mine. i should check the time difference from here the there. have a good one CRK owners.

Holy Cow! Collect CRK's much?:p

Back on topic, I have grown to really love my 'Zaan. It's been my #1 EDC for months now. I think I might even like it a little better than, dare I say it, my Sebenza.
