Umnumzaan - Opinion on Which Blade

I am contemplating of getting the Umnumzaan but I don't know if I should get the Tanto blade or the standard.

Please give me your opinion.

I am not sure it is going anywhere. From what I see on TNK they are going to carry it as an exclusive, much like the "Dog Paws" from Plaza, or the "Basketweave" CRKs also at TNK. I say this because they have the Left Handed tantos on back order. I could be totally wrong as I have not talked to TNK about this model.

To answer the OP question:
While I like the look of tanto blades, I do not like them for daily carry. I find they draw even more attention than a normal 3.5+ blade.

I emailed TNK with this very same question. I cant find the email now, but they told me they are indeed a TNK Exclusive and they would always have them. I stated that I had to save up for one and was worried they would be gone by the time I had the funds. They intern replied that they would always have them. Like anything, they will end someday, but definately not soon, so they are here to stay as a TNK Exclusive for quite awhile.

Knew I had the letter somewhere, from Neil Himself..... Enjoy !!

This is indeed a TNK Exclusive from CRK and will be made readily available for them on a regular basis. Below is their email reply to me ..............

"Hi

Thanks for writing.

The Tanto Umnumzaan is a TNK exclusive with Chris Reeve Knives.

We are getting then now in batches of 20 knives and they usually sell out in a week or so.

I do have a few now on hand to sell- more in 10 days.

However, as I said, this will be a regular item to you will always be able to get one- just perhaps not exactly when you are ready- but we will look after you and get you one when the times comes.

Id get the regular blade shape. Personally, i dont like the tanto much. Not very functional and ugly as sin imo:o
 
the exclusivity sort of interested me, but in the end, I actually like the swoops and harpoon shape of the standard blade over the straight top line of the tanto. although the tip of the tanto looks really cool.

i figured the standard's cutting surface would be more useful, too.
 
Get the Tanto, don't look back. That's what I did and it's the sharpest, most beautiful knife I own now.
 
It looks like the Tanto will be a tricky knife to sharpen. I have not handled one but in pics it appears that the front edge is convexed and the main edge a standard bevel.

I went with the standard version just becuase I know it would be easier for me to maintain. Others might be able to handle the Tanto leading edge better than me...
