My Chris Reeve Umnumza has been stored for a lot of years, pretty much in a leather sheath. Something of a gooey mess got on the knife I thought.....
Turned out to be the stop pin shock washers (O-Rings) deteriorated.
I cleaned the pins and could not find adequate ORings so I thought I'd use a heat gun to shrink an electrical connector over the pins. But I will be trying actual Shrink tubing to make a more conformed fit. This first go leaves the blade peeking a little. Raised it slightly.20260406_040659.jpg1000019804.jpg1000019805.jpg

Hardware and Big Box stores sell them.

Two weeks ago I bought a pack of assorted orings that had at least 10 of the size that fit my 'Zaan at Home Depot for about $5 and it has two of them on it right now.

Hi. Worth it. I will be going that route after all. I'm tempted to use shrink tubing now. Your reply came b4 I edited post with a bad outcome. The blade tip 'peeking' bcuz the ORing land is not completely clamped tightly by this plastic tube!
I think the wire shrink tubing would bring the blade down and not present any other issue.
I redid again but this time The tube I shrunk onto the pins only goes over the first section. Then isn't causing the peeking of the blade tip, up.

Is there a reason that you didn't contact the manufacturer? I thought they were still in business, and in the U.S. and highly regarded. Don't have one of the knives, so haven't been following.

I could google a contact email and ask to get a couple sets mailed, sure. I reasoned if common ORings were same thing I would get them quicker in town.
Not hurried to remove what I used for now.

The O rings are very basic and avaliable everywhere and cheap as can be. No need to go straight to CRK.

The most disappointing part of replacing the O rings is that new ones are much more quiet, and I miss the dull thunk every time I open mine.

Is that rust in the jimping?
Ok. Not rust but result of the gooey orings and sitting in storage. I put oil on it, overnight then used a toothbrush. All gone!

Strange that all pics are blurry until clicked on.

That's what light surface rust can be like. The jimping will be more prone to this since it holds moisture. But it's always pretty easy to get rid of.

I grabbed a couple of pair from CRK when I was ordering something else (screw kit?). I think they were $2 a pair. Cheaper from a hardware, but nice that CR doesn't really gouge you with the price. I have a bunch of leftover o rings from buying assorted packs to get the one or two that are the right size.

For all of your fancy people.

Here’s some coloured ones.
