(edit to ad a pic) I've been carrying my umnumzaan for a few weeks now here in Afghanistan trying to get over the "fear" if you will of carrying a 400dollar knife fear like losing it or screwing it up. Anyway knife has been great pocket clip finally staying put with a little locktite. Then we hit an IED and bounced around in the truck for a little bit (everyone is alright no fatalities thank God) So later that day when I looked at my umnumzaan I was missing a thumbstud. I don't know if I landed on it or what Luckily it came off in my pocket so I still have it. It still seems to open and close fine but I'm not sure if I should still carry it in case the other one comes off or something. I can't screw it in casue there's no threads on it. I'm not sure if they press them in or what? Do you guys think it will be alright with just the one? I already contacted CRK and am waitin for a response but I'm sure they will take care of it there customer service reputation precedes them. here's a couple pics like I said everyone made it out. The fire didn't get bad till after we were all a ways away

This is a better pic because it shows the mood of the moment. Not tragic and sad but relieved and victorious. That is everyone that was in the truck minus the gunner (he's good though) I'm the second one from the right standing all weird

Glad you're alive.
I wouldn't trust it with one thumb stud/blade stop.

wow. glad you are ok joe.

as far as the knife, i too am sure tha CRK will make it right (and no, it doesn't seem wise to use it in this state)

is anyone else here surprised that the blade stop is press fit?? that bothers me.

take care joe. it's a hell of a job you guys are doing over there and we wish you only the best in your mission

im suprised how thin the pressed in post is on this knife!!!! the sebenzas thumb stud is almost the same diameter the whole way through!! glad ur ok man stay safe!! im sure crk will take good care of you!!

Thanks for your service and you should consider yourself very lucky to be okay after a blast like that. From the looks of that vehicle, it's amazing everyone was alright.

As has been said, CRK will take care of you.

I must say, it's hard for me to get past the fact that not only were you in that vehicle and lived to tell about it, but that you then came to the CRK forum and matter-of-factly posted about the thumb lug coming loose on your Umnumzaan.

Wow!

Thank you for your service

About the knife, I REALLY thought it was a solid bar... like on the SnG and XM-18 :grumpy: I am surprised that Chris would not use a solid bar, and use that style of fitting for the bladestop. Tell you what, with the Umnumzaans thin tip and that style press fitted bladestop and the hot spot from the clip... My Micarta 21 is looking like it really is "the best." ;)

Glad you made it! I'm sure they will get you taken care of, make sure you tell them you want a new stud and do not just press the old one back on.

Something is probably messed up bad if it just fell out. :o

The maxpro version of the MRAP(mine resistant ambush protected) are a lifesaver literally if it were a humvee we'd have been done for. It's made almost entirely by international. The only downside is they ride like complete sh** I mean ridiculous but that's a small price to pay for the benifits. It really does look worse than it is they are made to come apart like that. I thank god for those trucks this is like the third time. It was a little while ago. Couple concussions ankle injuries but relitvely speaking very lucky. I credit my very religious mother and all her prayers.

Thank-You Joe for keeping us safe
God Bless you for your service

Glad to hear that support back home is helping to keep you safe. Thanks for your support:thumbup:

I know the pics seem really dramatic. I really started this thread about the knife just figured you guys would like to see pics. I don't do anymore than anyone else does here(probly less cause I'm an NCO). The pictures of the truck aren't horrifying to me I celebrate them because they are a great testiment to American made quality just like CRK. The trucks look bad when it's all over but they've saved thousands. They really gave us the upper hand with these bastards. Another great American product doing what it was made to do.

Thank you, for your service. You guys are doing a great job. Everyone here in the states always thinks of you all. Stay safe.

Mr. Reeve will surely take care of you. ALL of us back here in the states truely appreciate what you do for us, you make the world a safer place to live and give us the freedoms this country was built upon. Thanks SO Much !:thumbup:

Well, on the up side at least we now know that it takes an explosion to make the thumb studs fall off :p

Seriously though, I'm glad you and your boys are OK after that

About the knife, I REALLY thought it was a solid bar... like on the SnG and XM-18 :grumpy: I am surprised that Chris would not use a solid bar, and use that style of fitting for the bladestop.

Well...It seems by CRK's post further down, that the newer one's due in fact have solid thumb studs! :)
