Umnumzaan vs Socom Delta?

Well now you guys have pushed the Umnumzaan to the very top of my "next to buy list". But for now, the Microtech is on its way and should be here Friday.

You'll like the MT, it's a great knife.
They always come scary sharp and hold a great edge for a long time.
That said, I'd choose the Umnum. I carried a tan to umnum as my main blade for years, it's an awesome knife. Out of the 20 or so MT's that I've owned I never carried them for more than a couple of days, they became more of a collectors piece for me.

Well, my Socom Delta got here today. And after putting a lanyard and some froglube on it, I decided I'd post some pics. So here they are.

As You can see, blade centring isn't perfect, but it doesn't touch the liners. (If anyone know's how to fix, I would appreciate it)

Born 12/2013, ATS-34 Steel.

Knife is solid as a rock, no play at all. And very smooth, which I'm sure will improve with a little wear in. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks nice. How is the detent? To center the knife, I assume you would need the proprietary tools for the screws. If you take it apart it will void the warranty.

I have a delta G10, and Zaan, and for me it's not even a question for build quality, Zaan all the way. My Delta had to be returned new out of the box because the lock would collapse under pressure (not impact), I also felt the lock bar was too weak making the detent almost non-existent, and the opening was rough. After almost 2 months, return shipping, AND "warranty" fee it returned the lockup was better, but the detent was still worthless, and the opening smoothness was better but still pretty rough.

I really liked the design/shape of the Socom so I bought their ridiculous $20 proprietary fastener tool, took it apart and fixed the lock bar tension which mostly fixed the detent issue, polished some surfaces and the smoothness was much better. I've also learned that I prefer proper tolerances and bushing for a smooth pivot compared to bearings but I like a controlled blade opening with hydraulic like resistance. Most bearing knives you have to loosen the pivot to the point that the blade swings completely free if you want it really smooth, which makes for much less control when opening around sheeple. I've also learned on multiple knives that G10/Carbon fiber handles without full length inserts have a lot more flex in them.

Good. I like the grind. I have a custom knife in ATS-34 and like it. My mini-matrix has that steel, although I haven't used it yet. Had to send it back for a super weak detent.

That is a cool knife obsidian, nice score. If I find one in CPM-D2 or ATS-34 at a good price, I'll be saving up for one me thinks.

You purchased an aftermarket bit not made by Microtech. The factory Microtech made tools are around $185 when you can find them.
