un-Official Modded Kershaw/ZT Thread (Scales, Regrinds, Frankensteins, Dye-Jobs, etc)

Thanks to Rival I think it was for the idea! I actually don't have to talk myself into carrying it anymore. It is like it was meant to be on this sucker.

It was actually me, did you use the ganzo clip? I wish I could find a titanium clip to go on it. Now if I could just find an actual thumb stud that I dont have to drill out the original hole to fit on the blade.

Well then thanks turtle for the live action idea! It is actually a 056x clip I roughed up with the dremel and sand paper. Almost looks like it was made for it.

bored one day, and was looking at my 550...and decided I didn't like that bit hanging down past the sharpening choil.

Instead of doing all the things my wife asked me to do this morning, I Oxiclean treated my starkey ridge and heat colored the clip. It came out a nice deep bronze color after about a half an hour and is nice and even, even though the pix dont show it...
I am curious how this will wear, I am wanting it wear around the edges back to titanium. An "aged look if you will.
next thing is to replace the backspacer with standoffs and find a different thumb stud.

@SolidOrgange, could you send that to me as well? I recently got bit by the ZT bug..... The girlfriend jokes i'm terminal..... although, with a 300, 350, 560, and 100 ordered, she's probably not wrong.....

Thank you! I'm actually about to enlarge the sharpening choil on my 0550 just slightly. Did it take long? I'll likely use the Workstation to hold the Dremel steady and hold the 0550. Sound about right? Also, did you finish it off with a finer sandpaper roll?

yea. i held it in a vise while I worked on it, and took about 20 minutes. the warm blade will melt a groove into the ice cube, and I just left it there. I didnt bother finishing it off with sandpaper, the finish on it is pretty much as is, after the sanding drum. S35VN doesnt seem to scratch deep against abrasive material.

Dyed scales on my Kershaw Echelon
meNTr.jpg

I know this is an older post but I have an echelon I'm the mail and I love the lines of the knife but hate that ugly booger color :-p Any more recent tips on using RIT to dye an echelon? I've never dyed scales before or used RIT, so any tips are helpful ones.

I assume take the scales off completely--any special things i should do while boiling? Im thinking lime or vibrant green, or a relatively deep/hot pink (ok, a little girly, but oh well, I can't be a tough chick all the time) so it sounds like longer 'cook' or soak time. Do I need to keep it at a boil the whole time, or simmer, or simply soak, or what?

The knife is a blem (why are echelons so damn hard to find?) but I'd rather not ruin the scales or make them repulsive looking, if I can help it.

Thanks!

Secret! Comes in these Colors/Finishes and also Copper....Don't think you can get Ti Orange ..Pete Gray makes them..
