Uncle needs a new hunting knife...please help!

I say look at the Fallkniven F1. Great knife for around $75. I've used it for skinning deer last season.

Also a good cheaper workhorse would be the Gerber Gator in ATS34. I've used one on deer many times.

I concur with rdangerer and the others. Order one of the Dozier's from A.G. Russell. My fav is the Yukon Pro Skinner. One awesome hunting knife!

If you like the Doziers you need to verify just how "stainless" your uncle wants his knife. The D2 is only semi-stainless.

Not only that, but Dozier's hollow grind finish is a somewhat rough "three hundred something" grit, per what Bob told me.

I sure wish he'd go to 600 at least.

What that means is that his blades are somewhat like bead blasted blades in that you really have to clean them well, and dry them well before you store them, because they have those tiny 300 grit scratches in them and hold gunk and water, and will get rust spots without much provocation.

Bob stops at 300 grit to keep the price down I suppose. D2 will take a decent finish when a maker tries, orange-peely but decent for working knife. (Walter Brend finishes D2 so nicely you'd think it was ATS-34).

Thanks guys. I think it's now between the Fallkniven S1, the Busse #5, and a Dozier. I would like to get him a Dozier, but I can't wait the waiting period as I'm leaving soon. Is there anywhere I can get a Dozier quick other than Ebay or the the FS/T forum?

Try to get a Dozier at
http://www.agrussell.com
I have a Pro skinner ordered directly from Bob, for me the fingergroves are not a problem. The Yukon skinner is beautiful , probably more functional too.
Contact A.G. Russell by E-mail or phone, he will inform you has he the particular Dozier knives in stock or not. I have great experience with their service too.

Uh, yeah ... I left you all the links for Dozier knives at dealers that I could think of, right in my post.
