Buck told me they were reintroducing this model vs. a limited run and that they should be at dealers. I've found a couple on a couple known knife dealer's sites, one for just $30 but $8 shipping. But most are on an auction site.

Buck also said to think of the 110 rather than the 501 when thinking of this knife as a comparo. I was thinking of something like the 501 but with a longer drop point blade. The 500 seemed to be it.

Any thoughts, comparison photos, idea of fair shipped price?

I think $38 delivered for a new 500 Duke is a pretty fair deal. Buck should have told you to think of the 112 , not the 110 as the 500 and 112 are the same size except that the 500 is thinner, Here's a comparison photo of a 110, 500 and 501 and below that, a 112 and the 500. The 112 has a different blade than standard but the overall comparison is the same.

I just placed an order for two 500 Dukes today from Buck, The sales rep said they are in stock at Buck right now.

Plumberdv, once again you come through!! Thank you for posting those photos!

Rick, they just aren't on the website.

I went ahead and ordered it from the place that had it on sale for $29.97 so $38.47 with shipping. Probably be about what Amazon will have them for at some point.

Don't need it, wanted it. ;)

Thanks again!

Yes I know, Buck does not update their website that often as far as I can tell.

Yes, agreed. They should have told you it compares to the 112. Still, in the catalog the Duke is stated with a 3 1/8" blade and the 112 with a 3". The later with a clip blade and the 500 with a drop point and the Duke is much thinner. DM

I just measured a standard 112 clip blade and six 500 drop point blades. They all measure exactly 3". Perhaps the new version has a bit longer blade.

I think I've read the 500 has a 3" blade. I'd assume the current run wouldn't be any different.

I am kinda Laughing right now because there was confusion on the bolsters, were they SS or NS, now there may be confusion on the blade length LOL, all I know is I hope to get the two I ordered soon along with the 118 B&C Personal that I ordered today.

FWIW, nickel silver is what I read re: the bolsters.

Joe Houser looked into that awhile back and determined that the bolsters are SS. The catalog is incorrect.

"Dave,

I just heard back and the 500 bolsters are made of stainless, not nickel silver as the dealer catalog says. As far as past history goes, I remain hopeful that I can locate something that verifies it once and for all.

Hope this helps,

I've really been wanting a new Buck lately. I might have to try one of these.Price sounds good. But then also I never really relized the 112 was that much smaller than the 110. The 112 might be a god addition also.

I just measured two 112's and both had 3" blades. Then I measured the Heritage Duke and it had a 3 1/8" blade. The 1985 catalog states the 500 comes with a 3 1/8" blade. DM

I suppose that 1/8" isn't a big deal or anything to argue about. Perhaps we're measuring a bit different. Here's a picture of my Heritage Duke and there's no way I can stretch the blade that extra 1/8". My rule is butted up tight against the bolster and I measured all the rest, including a Classic II the same way with the same result and length.

The second picture is pehaps easier to see.

I've seen at times many come out a little different. Heck, the guy last week with his sterling silver Duke said his had a 3 1/4" blade. I noticed in Buck's 2013 it states the Duke has a 3" blade. So, this statement has changed over the years. DM

There was 1/8" difference on blade length even on the two 25th anniversary 124's I received recently.

For a knife the size of the Duke, I'll be fine if mine comes in at 3.25".
