I know there's some members here who like to customize, embellish, and re-work their Busse's....Ban, Tim and others like them. You all do great work and I really enjoy your posts and seeing the work you do

I've seen many things done on Busse's, but there's ONE thing I don't think I've seen yet: Horse stall rubber scales on a Battle Mistress :D

Anyone done it yet? I never really thought much about it when I saw it on competition choppers in magazines and such. I finally got to handle and chop with a competition chopper made of M2 with the horse stall rubber scales last week and loved them! They're great! I think they'd make a hell of a grip on a BM :D

THAT would be a hell of a knife, especially on heavy beasts like the FFBM's!

Man, its like you guys are reading my mind sometimes, were you thinking of something like this? I'm getting ready to add and shape the handles on this FBM soon! I got the idea last year at Blade West looking at some of the cutting competition knives.

It a good idea but you would need a new way to attach them, the mats arent as stiff as micarta and would pull thru if the tube rivets are used....or at least i think...if someone pulls it off tell us all about it!!

The guys that use it on the cutting competition knives (and it doesn't come off, luckily, as those guys really take some powerfull swings!!! ) glue the handles on, the hollow rivets help a little. I have done a test glueing and I can't pry it off, so I think it will work fine. I'll let you know how it goes.

I crudely made some Rubber horse mat handles for my Machete the other day, need to glue them but they are comfy.

When you say glue, I presume you are talking about epoxy???

Nope, The Pros use a type of super glue (some expensive stuff, I have the name somewhere), I have been experimenting with some weatherstriping contact adhesive.

Yes, EXACTLY like that :D you know what they say: Great minds think alike ;)

Wouldn't tubes work if you just sculped the flaring point within the scale to be more obtuse? More to grip? Then just use some sort of super glue that you can use that glue remover stuff on to get off if you need to?

If you use epoxy, wouln't it be a beeyotch getting it off eventually?

I just read this and thought to myself, "Self, that's a wild idea!!!" In the 80's I used rubber sole material that I would get from the local shoe repair shop. . . but it wasn't very tough. . . .Horse stall mats are what we use on the floor of the grinding room, so, I have Beef and Ron tearin' one up right now! Ought to be interesting to see if we can machine the grooves in the handle!!!!

Stay tuned!!!

You know you're in an good shop if the owner is always actively involved to give the best.:cool:

Hey, that is really a cool idea. I want to see some end results - from Busse or anyone else!

You da man Jerry! I can't wait to see some hand shaped horse stall rubber scales on a Busse!! I hope it's an option! (I saw your update on trying to CNC them :D)

I remember how tough that stuff is....:p my cousin and I used to wrestle on it at the stables where my Grandpa had his race horse when were kids....I distinctly remember getting my face ground into that unforgiving stuff :) funny the things you remember. Sucks being the youngest :p
