Unconventional sharpening

I would like to try out the coffee mug sharpening. Can someone elaborate some more on what to do?

Here's a link to a post in another older thread, with a couple videos hosted by BF's own 'jackknife' (Carl); the vids were a collaboration with and posted by BF member 'Downhill Trucker'. Carl demonstrates how to sharpen a blade on several items, including the coffee mug. Very well-presented instruction, and keeps it all simple, as it should be.

David, Thank you for posting that link, never seen it before. Not only a very useful and effective video, but it was excellent to see JK/Carl on film. His explanations are straightforward and very articulate. I must admit to being envious of his fitness, good health and alertness. He often moans about getting older but he's considerably healthier looking than me who is near 20 years his junior! The secret? I wish I knew.....Where are those tea-cups I need to get sharpening.

Thanks, Will

Thanks, Will

I can only chalk it up to my nightly toddy consisting of good amounts of a special elixir made from a secret ingredient from the backwoods of Kentucky!

Oh, that's jackknife's secret!! I may have to reconsider my usual brownie and ice cream bedtime snack.

(I enjoyed and profited from those videos earlier this year, after Dan (Parke1) was good enough to send me a link. And when I started watching, I realized I had stumbled across them earlier. I had no idea at that earlier time that the guy was our own jackknife, but I did think, "This guy makes sense; sharpening a jack knife shouldn't be rocket science!")

I can get Case's CV steel shaving sharp on the Sharpmaker, and can't get my GEC's sharp on it to save my life so I strop them on a piece of cardboard to keep them maintained.
