Under $100 folder- help please

Barrage- I've considered this one, but I can get a Stryker cheaper. Which is better?
Well, i have neither of them but - i just prefer the axis lock (like many other people ;)).
If you want to buy it from a usual dealer it could be hard to find one that sells the barrage for less than 100 $ (but i thought there's still at least one dealer who uses coupons to realize a lower price than 'MSRP * 0.85'...).

Good luck finding your knife! :)

Just a thought here, if you buy your knife from www.888knivesareus.com it can be serrated by them. This way if you find a knife you like, but only comes as plain edge, you could buy it here and get it partially serrated for $3.00. Again, just a thought.

Welcome to BF btw!:thumbup::D

After a week of reading these boards, I am no closer to making a decision. Actually, I am probably further from a decision than when I started. It seems like I am gravitating to the tough combat-style folders like ZT's and Emersons. The problem is that these tend to be heavy and large and probably would not carry well around the office. It looks like I might need two different knives to satisfy my wants.

The Random Leek would probably be about perfect for my work needs with the exception of not having a deep pocket clip. If I buy a blem from the dealer section on these boards, it would leave me about $50 for another knife.

To satisfy the mall ninja in me, I could buy a weekend knife that is big, heavy, and scary looking. Not sure on this one yet.

The other option would be to try to find something that is a good compromise between work and play. So far, the BM Stryker is at the top of the list. How well does the Stryker carry? Is it light enough to comfortably carry in a pair of dress pants?

Also, I was set on getting a combo blade, but it seems that most here prefer a plain edge. I have always found the serrations useful, but my Gerber is hoplessly dull. Should I just buy a plain edge?

Frank,
I think you are discounting Spydercos too quick. I used to think the design aesthetics were unpleasing, but now carry a Paramilitary. It is slim, light, strong, very usable knife. I suggest you go to a knife store and handle a para or a military. Put it in your pocket and then take it out and deploy it. You may be presently surprised on the feel, grip, and ease of deployment. Now, I think the aesthetics of Spyderco are beautiful. I also carry a griptilian and love BM. Yesterday, because I am such a nut carried my para and my grip, in the same pocket, but I got issues. I learned to sharpen and I do not like serrations but they can be useful.

You might be right, but I just can't seem to get used to the look of a large hole in the blade. All spydercos look like terradactyls to me. I also prefer a flipper to a thumbstud, so I'm assuming that I will not like the hole for opening the blade either. I will settle for a thumbstud if it is AO.

My big problem is that I can't seem to find anyplace locally that has a decent selection of knives. I went to an outdoor store that had a few BM's, Walyworld has a couple of Kershaws. Other than that, I haven't been able to handle many of the knives that I am considering. There is a gun show tomorrow, so I would think that their should be a large selection of knives there. At least there has been at every other gun show that I have been to; although I haven't been to one here in FL yet. We'll see.

if you can't try them out for yourself, definitely check out youtube video reviews. Most of the major knives are reviewed heavily so you can get a good idea of what you are buying.
