Total cost so far $75 on 7/11

Edit- pictures removed, design changed 7/21

Edit- 5:30 pm-Just got a nice tire and bushing from the junk yard, got it for free cause he has a lot of them. Going back tomorrow to talk with George about a 250+ lb block and 3/4 inch plates.

Mike is dropping off a small mig welder in a few hours so I don't have to use the one in the farm shop. Should start taking shape tommorow if I get the steel block and plate.

Picked up a 2hp motor yesterday. Removed the old anvil and have decided to use car tire bearings for the leaf springs pivot point.

Well I stopped work for a while but I'm picking up a 2hp motor tommorow and I have cut the beam down. I'm going to make the hammer about 60 pounds and it will be run by belts rather than a "tire clutch thingy". Going to be run just like a rusty, hopefully just as good too. Total cost should be under $200 by the time its finished.

Not to be a critic and I hope some others will comment but your design looks extremely dangerous. The pressures and stress that are placed on the design of a power hammer make design and strength critical with no room for guessing.

I wish you well but please have a couple people who have made and used power hammers double check your design before you try to use it.

For now it is weaker than what I want. Once I finish it I'm going to reinforce almost every part and then build a lower frame where I will pour at least 300lb of concrete to help add strength and weight. The anvil and a few other things were planned for a 10-15lb hammer, they are going to be completely replaced with a far stronger set up. Although the beam looks like its supported by the wood, but that was just so I could weld it to the bottom plate.

I would rather be called a dumb ass than break my arm running the hammer so please critique anything that looks weak in the future pictures! :)

Thanks Nate, I was planning on a video once I tweak it to run better. Does anyone know what that piece is that connects the leaf springs to the main beam of a hammer is called and where I can purchase one, I know its some type of bearings...
