Been carrying this one for a couple of weeks (Schatt & Morgon Cotton Sampler in ATS34) and love it.

Pros - straight edge, easy open, great ergos, beautiful to behold.
Cons - none really, just a little wow in the blade tip on my particular knife.

I think that folks would really love the pattern - like I said it's easy to open (important to some, especially folks with arthritis, etc) and easy to sharpen (good for all of us) - and it WORKS. So, just spreadin' some love for a pattern I don't see enough of.

I think what kept me from getting one is the ones I have found online have a strong recurve. I like the one you have with a straight edge.

Am I wrong? Am I getting the cotton sampler confused with something else? Or do most have a recurve like a hawkbill?

Mine's straight. There are variants, by I am no expert. Bose and others have belly. I haven't seen hawks though.

I think it just varies, from company to company.
I am like you though, I like the ones with the over sized sheeps foot blade over the hawkbill.
GEC's cotton samplers are more like this also.

Gotcha, so maybe I am not cracking up :)

It looks a bit like a "New England Whaler" (bottom knife in the photo)

The ones with the sheeps foot blade makes me think of a Case sway back gent that went to the gym with Chuck Norris for a couple of months.
I am picturing the pattern being very good for cutting rop or just big tasks in general.
Here is one with a hawk bill:

I love the F&W version of the sampler and think the blade is great. I just wish the example I bought had been worth keeping.

Here is Amhers Cutlery variation of the cotton sampler. The curved blade is the more traditional style of cotton sampler. I don't have this knife anymore and kind of regret selling it.

That Amherst is nice. The blade is like some of the KaBar cotton samplers I've seen. Has the big belly tip but is ground all the way to the kick rather than the other style that has the extended choil.

The blade on the amherse looks like the one on this Case Large Saddlehorn:

I like the massive sheeps foot blade better though, but the other style with a curve does seeme to be more common.

I really like this knife
The steel holds an amazing edge and is easy to sharpen
The blade is shaped for pulling not pushing
So it is a wicked slicer when pulled
I use it as an woods/working knife
I really like it for outdoors stuff
A strong and wide blade
And has a hole for a lanyard

It is very wide and I had a hard time finding a sheath that fits the width, but the Matrinni leather medium fits it well

Jeff Mutz has a classic cotton sampler in his offerings. You might check it out. Cotton samplers have never really appealed to me, I guess, since I don't do cotton other than wear it.
