Undersized sheaths

I've encountered a problem that I feel other forumites have probably encountered and am wondering how they solved the problem. Any and all advice would be appreciated. I have a couple of khuks, including the 18" "Sher Crazy" AK I just received, that are mated with sheaths that, at the opening, are almost the same width as the khuk blades at their widest point. This results in the top 1/2 inch or so of the sheath being sliced completely through by the khuk's blade when it is drawn. My main concern is that, because of the cut, the sheath might have a tendency to tear along that edge because of the pressure when the khuk is sheathed. Would the easiest fix be to glue a strip of leather along the outside edge of the sheath, or is there some other way of fixing it? Anyone else ever have this problem?

This can be a nasty problem, Steven. The best way to fix this is to epoxy a strip of leather around the top of the sheath, similar to the frog loop. Next best is to epoxy a small strip of leather over the area of interference.

It is the shrinkage that causes this problem. My guess is it is very hard to predict which gives the sarkis this problem. Or maybe it was Sher's oversized blade!

Worst case, if it give you serious problems return it and Pala will fix it up for you.
