What types of underwater compatible flashlights do you guys use for snorkeling, scuba, caves... Will probably be in the water a lot on my honeymoon so thought I'd get something new to take with me. Any underwater disposable camera suggestions as well (hopefully digital Mac compatible- does that exist?).

Thanks

You can get underwater disposables at the drug store, Wal-Mart, etc. They don't go very deep, but should be good enough. Or, you can look into water-tight housings for cameras you already have. Try B&H, they have a decent selection.

You will find many of the better flashlights are pretty good if you make sure to lube up the o-rings with silicone grease. The new Nitecore D10/EX10 are rated for IPX-8 and last I checked all Surefires are good for 1 atm if not more, model dependent. Three companies known for their dive lights are Princeton Tec, Underwater Kinetics, and Pelican, although last I checked the dive lights are a little behind on technology. If you want the best of the best, Barbolight ranks very high.

In edmonton the best deal you will get is a Pelican from MEC. I personnally use a "Stealthlite Recoil" when I go caving since it runs on 4 AA cells and has a decent run time. Most Princeton Tec lights are dive rated as well but they will be a little more expensive around here. Here is a list of local dive shops you can check out http://ws.albertaunderwatercouncil.com/auc/stores.htm

Be careful when choosing your flaslight. If you focus on diving flaslights you may come across a number of them fitted with halogen lights that generate a lot of hit and are only meant to be used under water. Switching them on out of the water means trouble.

+1 on the Pelicans. I've had several over the years. I don't dive, but I did a lot of canoeing and rafting. When they went underwater, it usually wasn't on purpose, but I took comfort in knowing that they'd come back up working.

I have to admit, one of my favorite things about Pelican is their guarantee. It is rock solid, but does not cover "shark bite, bear attack or children under five.":D;)

I was originally after Pelicans when I got into Underwater Kinetics. I'm now so used to Underwater Kinetics stuff it would take a lot to dislodge me. Before I got into proper Terralux mods [TLE-5EX Ministar Extreme] I used a 4*AA Underwater Kinetics on land too 'cos it is about the same length as a 2*AA and only a bit fatter. The light output from it dwarfed anything else sensible around [yeah, I know there are those trendy things that burn for a few moments on Lithiums] and has that chuck it in a bucket true workmanlike aspect. And the Sunlight SL6 with two parallel stacks of 3*C cells is an 8 watt compact scorcher at a bargain price.

The thing that first attracted me to Pelican, apart from performance, was the amusing and famous guarantee with the exception “shark bite, bear attack, and children under 4”. I believe they are great kit, and if I was looking for something running on 4*AAs that attached to my mask for me it would be arbitrary between Pelican and UK. For a powerful compact blinder though the UK SL6 edges out the Pelican.

Note: I've not tried the LED UK and I wont 'till I know what they are like.
