Uneven grinds

That photo is definitely not an Ang Khola nor is it Ram Kumar. That being said it’s probably not the knife advertised.

Can you post the actual photo that she posted or tell me which DOTD this was offers on? Hey

It was in the post on the second page titled "Great team work by father and Ram Kumar". It's the knife in the center of the first photo advertised as a 22 inch AK by Ram Kumar. I'm pretty sure it's the same knife, it looks like it to me and is the right weight and length, and the sheath is for sure the same, the two smaller pieces were offset like in the photo, not that they are different lengths that's just how they were put in they both actually do fit in the same height, and there was the same glue poking out of the bottom metal of the sheath that you can see in the photo. I'll post the photo from the post and a better view of the knife to compare .

I noticed that too. I wasn't sure what to think though, wasn't sure on the exact details of what defines what type of khukuri.

I thought that too but then I looked at a bunch of dui chirras and they all have a different cho, and this knife has the same cho as an ang khola, also that line on the back, I don't know what it's called, it's the same too.

I believe it's an Ang Khola. I've noticed two things, during several years on this subforum: (1) The very large AKs look a little different because the blades are elongated. (2) Sometimes the kamis make an AK with the regular fuller plus an extra fuller that runs the length of the blade. Then they're pretty much the same as a dui chirra model, except that the edge geometry might be a little "thicker" for heavy chopping, but that's hard to see in a photo.

I think that what's happened in the last two years or so is that the kamis have been exercising their creativity a little more and making hybrid models, which is good for collectors, though not good for our bank accounts. Then Yangdu has to exercise her creativity in coming up with new model names. I don't think there even was such a thing as a "dui chirra model" in earlier years. All it means is "two fullers" so it's kind of a catch-all name that could include a more fancy AK or CAK.

If you go to the HI "online store" there's a table of contents listing model names, and "dui chirra" doesn't even appear in the list.

Well, with the way it is I don't have any use for it. Depending on what Yangdu says I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it. I wish it didn't bother me. I really really do. I was pretty excited. If I end up stuck with it I guess I'll try and fix it somehow.

Thanks David for the clarity and being the guru of info!!! I knew you would come through on this!

Send the AK back to HI for replacement or refund.

Ok Yangdu thank you very much for your time, I will mail it tomorrow as soon as I am able. Thanks again, I really do appreciate your time and effort.

If you live long enough, or spend enough time on this forum you become a guru. It has more to do with longevity than any special talent. Rather like growing a beard.
