I was planning on having a day off today as I have some big commercial gigs coming up this week, but I got a call last night to do some fashion/beauty shots of a girl from the Bay area. We did a few different looks and had a lot of fun. Absolutely nothing to do with knives, but thought i'd share anyways.

Thanks Jimmy.

It's actually the same girl btw. Hard to get one without the other.:D

i like the LOTR/harem look more in the second pic LOL :D
pics are amazing ted... i know i asked before but do you do weddings :)

EDIT: i already know the answer... :grumpy:

great pics, Ted!
(like the 2nd one more than the 1st)

Technically, the pictures are good, but I am very critical about posing. I used to photograph weddings and portraits and got my British Institute of Professional Photographers award.

E-mail me if you want pointers as it isn't for open forum :) Pretty girl.

Faszinating eyes, especially in the first one.

(I do know its the same girl in both photographs ;))

Now, where is that forum again where you post more photographs? :D

Lately, I've been frequenting photocamel.org
(but it's admittedly low in traffic)

I used to be on dpreview.com a lot but seems like they have suffered lately with a lot of snobbery....too bad...used to be a great place to hang out and get good info/tips and see some great pics. (still is....just gotta sift through the crap).

great work ted, as always. you always get me thinkin about gettin that olympus when you post pics. what's the girl's ethnic descent?

yeah has to be the same girl, but she is a pretty one.

That first picture is the keeper though!

Very nice, Ted. It looks like you are using an umbrella or softbox for your main light and a nice job with the hair/backlight. Good, simple two light setup.

Studio strobes, not "hot lights?"

Nice pictures! Sultry and sensual!

I like the "White Lightning" Studio strobes. Relatively inexpensive and very reliable. I use these for my photos of weapons and artifacts. I usually use three lights, main, key and back lights.

I always hand hold the camera and the object. Photography has gotten so much easier with digital!

I worked my way through college (1960s/1970s) as a commercial photographer. 4x5 view camera for architectural and products (main business). 35mm and 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 for fashion and weddings.

Think that I will post some pics of an an old Batak (Sumatra) sword called a "Piso ni Datu."

Dan, I stop by both places, mostly in the lighting forums. My name is the same there too. I agree about the attitude on DPreview, pretty sad, all the really good guys are gone mostly.

Andrew, I'll email you later this week. Thanks for the offer, I'm sure you're having fits about her hands. It's a long story. LOL

Magnum, she is Hispanic.

Bill M. - I have a bunch of White Lightning X1600's that have been workhorses for years. I love them. This particular shot is a Profoto 600 mono in with a 20" beauty dish and the hair light is an Elinchrom Style 600 S mono with a 30 degree grid. I used them just because I had the light mods handier for them than the WL's. Great pics of the sword btw. Does it live in YOUR house or does it have it's own?

Thanks for the good words guys. I'll see if I can get some other pics online soon.

Funny thing is the photo folks I know like the blue shot better and the mostly non photo folks I know like the second look better.

FWIW - I like the blue look better and they were all intentionally designed to be highly stylized with the jewelry.

Works for me. The blue one is stunning and lit beautifully.

I should put it outside with this Singah Barong head. Also Batak. In our solarium, almost outside.

Would like to see more of your work.

You probably have some very sophisticated software, but for a quick easy and very effective software you really cannot beat Picassa2, FREE from Google. I am VERY impressed with it, particularly for color correction (Auto-Color, cropping, highlight and shadow maniipulation).

Also power-toys to resize pictures very easily to post. Click on the picture. click resize (600x800) and that is it. Also reduces the file size from big megabytes to about 40kb or 50kb. Well under the size required to post.

I use both of these programs for every picture I post.
