I haven't posted actively in a long time, and am a lurker lately, but this situation has gotten a bit ridiculous.
Back in the beginning of January (I believe 1/6/12), I called Canal Street Cutlery to ask them if they could replace the scales on my 2007 forum knife (A 3-blade Cannitler), because the original mammoth ivory was peeling (as it can be prone to doing) up at the ends of the scale material. I was pleasantly surprised to have Jeanne (Not sure what her position is in the company, other than it's usually her answering the phone) say that they'd be happy to replace the scales for free, and that I should send it in. I told them it didn't matter what type of scales they put on it, since mammoth ivory is such a pain to work with (and Lord knows it stinks when you grind it), and since it wasn't a collector knife to me.
I called again in February, and was told by Jeanne that the repair was done, but they were waiting on the engraver (who is a part-time employee) to come in and find the engraving pattern that was originally done on the bolsters. The next couple of times I called inquiring about the status of the repair, I was told some variation of the issue with the engraver.
Sometime at the end of February or early March, I called Jeanne and told her that it didn't matter about the engraving, and could they please just send it back. A couple weeks later I called back, and she told me that they were still waiting on the engraver (???). I reiterated that it was fine to send it back to me without the engraving.
In early April, I called, and was told by both Jeanne and one of the owners (Wally), that the knife was ready, and they had just forgotten to ship it.
I then called about every two or three weeks until the middle of last week, only to be apologetically assured that they were going to send it. Last week, I spoke to Wally again, and he said that they would overnight it to me and e-mail me a confirmation number.
Today I still have no knife and have heard nothing from Canal Street Cutlery.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't starting to get a little irritated here.
