ive had my small sebenza for about a year. 2 months after i got it i lost it for 8 months, so really ive only had the chance to use it 6 months MAX. the awesome blue finish on the thumb study is nearly all worn off. after 6 months i found this hard to believe, i thought the blues were anodized on the metal which would make it nearly impossible to wear of with your hands.

i emailed CRK a week ago, no response. i cant imagine im the only one that this bugs.. is this something i have to live with or can i get a new thumb stud? if i can how would i replace it, it looks pressed in.

If you use the knife this is going to happen and it's perfectly normal.

I don't think there's anything you can do about the wear on the studs. My seb's previous owner polished the stud on my large classic, and I actually prefer that to the blue.
I don't mean to derail your thread, but how did you lose your knife for that long?

no idea man... i eventually found the knife in a pair of pants that were stuffed behind a couch in a room thats in a part of the house i dont frequent often (moms "fancy room", any italian will know). super bizarre

Dang Bro. . . You are unhappy with one of the finest folders ever manufactured because the blue color is wearing off of the thumb stud?

This is normal.

While I am on your side - I Hate the blue anodizing. I think it wears off and looks tacky. I prefer the all silver lugs/hardware combo for this very reason.

It only looks good when it is brand new, and when it is completely off.

If it bothers you that much, you can send it CRK. They can switch them to silver, or you can have a freshly anodized blue lug again.

I used a product call Never Dull, a polish for most metals to remove the blue anodizing on my 25 and large Insingo. IMO the studs look much

better in silver than blue, which comes off.

im not unhappy with the knive itself just the stud. when paying for one of the best folders in the biz i just figured this was something that shouldnt happen. i am very happy with the knife itself.

This is why I prefer the silver lugs, no wearing! If it bothers you just polish it silver.

It's just normal anodising there is really no good way to make it last longer than it does, it will always wear off and it will happen quiet quickly as you have seen. I personally have never liked the blue and always go for silver and this is one of the reasons.

Any anodising will wear off. My beautiful blue anodised liners on my custom Des Horn Imvubu has worn due to use, and my Burger knives LEXK barely has any blue left on the spine from all the use, but one can send it in and they can redo it for you.

My blue ano started to fade after about a week of compulsive opening and closing of the knife, it's perfectly normal.

My fingers can't tell the difference. :)

Seriously, many have said that if that bothers you, then get the silver hardware. The blue anodizing does not just disappears at the thumb lugs but also the spacers.

I prefer the blue lug because I like the way they look when worn! I also really like a single lugged Seb because I dig the little blue circle on the non lug side.

This is the norm. If your going to keep the knife as a safe queen, it will never wear off. If your going to use it, you can expect this and any future thumbstuds you have CRK put in it will wear off just the same. If you don't want the worn look, send it in and get a silver thumbstud, which will show no wear.

+1 for preferring silver lugs!
I don't mind the look of a gold anodized lug on a wood inlaid as much, but it would still rub off.

thanks for the input everyone! coincidentally shortly after posting this thread i received a response from CRK :nonchalance:

for those wondering the thumb stud is $11.50 + shipping. ill live with it, if i ever sell the knife ill replace it

Also, if you ever decide to polish the rest of the blue off the stud be sure to protect the blade from being rubbed smooth.
Use some blue painters tape or something.

They will sell a single thumbstud for $11.50 plus shipping? And then the owner is responsible for removing the old one (should be relatively simple) and pressing in the new one?

Also, anyone self-replace the double thumbstuds, or just sent it in ti CRK and paid the $50, $35.00 for the thumbstud and $15 for return shipping?

I just did that with my large Insingo, and with their free "spa" treatment it came back looking brand-new. Only issue is I now carry it in the CRK slip pouch because I like to use it, but don't want it to stop looking brand new! :)
