unhappy with thumbstud on my 21

From my understanding, you MUST send in the knife to have the thumbstud replaced. So the thumbstud is $11.50 + shipping to and fro. I cannot imagine CRK sending a thumbstud out to have the owner install it. This is a pressed in lock-tited part, so its something that would need to be sent in.

So if I wanted a double thumb stud its $50? Any color? My original was gold single stud, would like a double.

My blue is wearing as well, but I like the look. If you haven't been around here much, i had posted up a thread called "Scratching CRK's". In the thread most of the blue lugs are worn. It is a weak coating on the Ti, but it's not ugly. I think a well used knife tells a story, and a knife that looks like it came right out of the box is somewhat boring. Like others have said, polish it if you aren't happy with it.

When it comes to color of stud, for me it depends on the particular style of sebbie. Ive always wondered if creating some micro scratches on the stud, if it would hold the ano better?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but unlike aluminum, which is essentially dyed during the anodization process, with titanium the colour is achieved through altering the surface molecules with an electrical current. The amount of voltage determining the colour. The way light reflects off the altered surface creates the colour your eye sees. If I'm right, the blue on the titanium stud is a surface texture of sorts that will polish off with your finger, it's not really the same as a hardened coating, or the ano process with aluminum where dye soaks into the open pores of the metal. Does anyone know how CRK gets that blue? Certainly not the Chinese based on the goofy looking fake 25's with rainbow studs.

If you carry it with any frequency the blue will wear down and the titanium will develop a patina. In my mind they give the knife character as nyfemaker noted previously. Also, check around the forum, I understand there can be issues replacing the stud (cracked blades)

Sorry asking but...is it Titanium, right? I think should be easy to self anodize it at home instad hammering the knife to eject the old and hammering in the new...isn't it?
