Photos UNIDENTIFIABLE - William Rodger’s Vintage Knife *Very sentimental* - help please!

Since it's a well-loved user but clearly fallen into non-use or decrepitude. I'd take a radically different approach : go for new handle slabs why don't you? After all those scales are both worn and busted, filling in the gaps might prove difficult, might look good but will it feel good in the hand? I'm going against the consensus, get some fine new wooden scales on it, that feel and look great, get a decent edge back on the knife and present it to him. I get the felling your Old Boy will be delighted to actually be able to use and cut with the knife safely again. The knife has great family provenance but it's not some rare collector item that has to be maintained as a preserved wreck ;)

Many sorts of woods are suitable e.g. Olive, Ebony, Rosewood, Birch loads more, it's new life!

Thanks, Will

P.S. Those rubber bands do offer added grip I must say 🤣

Im with Will Will Power Will Power ...the old scales are knackered...new timber would be easier to deal with and look better....BUT...definitely do not polish the blade up.
Cheers.
