Unique Deploying Knifes

Ever since I was a little boy I would gaze in amazement when I saw my
fathers switch blades, and balisongs. With there ability to quickly deploy the blade faster then any of my folders at the time. I always have been interested in Stiletto/Daggers above folders but when I see a unusual folder I can't help but grab it. so show me some pictures of non traditional folding blades that are "unique" being released from force, gravity, tension, leverage
Anything that requires one hand to open, or is just plain unusual. No spring knifes please!

Here is some of the more popular I have seen.

Balisong/Butterfly knife

A knife when in a closed state will conceal the blade between two handles,
That pivot or swivels around the blade with a bit of practice you will be able to open it with one hand.

Cold Steel Triple Action

The blade on this pivots like a folder the handles are like a balisong but,
pivots in the opposite direction of a balisongs handles. Slide the thumb stud
and the flick of a wrist the blade is revealed!
The handle falls back into position giving a "Balisong type"
locking mech.
(There is also a video you can find on there site to get a better idea)

German gravity knife

This type of knife uses gravity to deploy the blade.
Holding the blade down, and pushing or flipping a switch will release the
blade.

Janisong
Not yet released to the public, This knife is based on a balisong
With safety in mind. Being able to manipulate it like a balisong without
The risk of getting cut and the ability to have a blade if required.
The way it works is when the blade is released from the side a
"Blank" blade deploys covering the edge of the blade. There is a video
demonstrating the knife in action.

S&W Power glide/Paratrooper
This knife has a "scissor like" deployment opening the handles
and then closing them will deploy or retract the blade
there is a trick to deploy the blade with one hand

Edit: I have found two more to add!

CRKT Glide Lock
on the upper part of the handle is a piece attached to the blade tang, pushing it up
will unlock the blade so you may swing it open, pushing the piece back down will lock the
blade in place.

CRKT The Snap Lock
this one is somewhat wierd :o
a "thumb stud" is pressed to unlock the blade, with substained pressure on the stud will
"fold" the blade out of the handle.

About that Janisong...if enough people make enough noise, it may see production. Michael Janich has been working for the Spyderco team for a few months now. He has mentioned on the Spyderco forums that he's sold the rights to the Janisong to Spyderco.

I hope it comes out one day. It is my all time favorite design.

Do you have a example? do you mean like a knife that can freely swivle into a locked position? If so then I would call that unique over a traditional folder :)

I have no idea how balisongs and other fancy deploying folders open faster than a solid liner lock with a thumb tab... it takes a milisecond.

I wasn't trying to state that a Balisong was faster to draw then any folder in general . I just ment the ones I had at the time when I was a young boy. I didn't have any
thumb studs or anything like that just little pocket knives from boyscouts
and wisconsin ;)

ah... that makes sense. I just find it funny how bali lovers like them because they open so fast when a simple liner lock manual folder opens almost instantaneously

That kershaw E.T is pretty nice if it goes around the 40$ range i'll have to pick one up thanks :]

Most def. ;) If the time came that I required a knife with a solid lockup and
a rapid deployment without the hassle. I wouldnt be looking at a balisong,
but from the uniqueness of theys type of Knives it's a great collector's item
and that's what I'm looking for. :D

Benchmade LFK.
