Unique Deployment Method? Your Thoughts.

I hear you dude but there we are.

Do you think it's any more flashy than an assisted opener? Besides, when i open with my thumb it's pretty fast that way too, so i'd say to a NKP both can be intimidating if they're not expecting it.

the thumb is more reliable for me on other spyderco models, especially the yojimbo2 & police3. I only used the middle finger flick on the delica, but it's not always 100% reliable.

I'm the exact opposite with the Yojimbo 2, i've found the weight of the blade helps a lot when flicking it open. I've even modified mine a little to unshroud the hole some and still prefer flicking it. It isn't as easy as a Para 2 though. Some models just don't flick very well, i'm not as good at it with my Military or Vallotton.

You can always open an assisted with two hands of you don't wanna attract attention. The difference with thumb and middle finger is that you can choose to be slow and deliberate with your thumb. I really don't get the fast opening thing unless you need your knife fast(SD?).

Whether we like it or not, a fast opening is equated with a switchblade in the eyes of the general public.

Nah i'm not a self defense guy, i guess it's just out of habit. I use my knife a lot for work purposes and the whole action of drawing/deploying/cutting/closing/pocketing gets done so many times that it becomes fast by nature/habit. I'm usually in a big hurry when i'm working/cutting things.

Why isn't this method more popular?

I think it's widely known on the net but it doesn't work very well for me. I can do a pretty good flick with my thumb though. I prefer a slower thumb opening because it is much more positive, and still plenty fast for my use.

Don't forget about the "New York Open".
It is performed by pulling the knife out of your pocket with your pointer finger and thumb pinching the blade. Then with an inward rotation of the wrist, the handle is flicked out while you slash 2 to 7 o'clock. All one motion. It should take less than on second from the time you touch the knife to the slash. People have used a balloon and a shot timer in the past for drills.
