United Cutlery

I remember looking at one of those Buck survival knives back in the 1980s and I even had the money to buy it, had I wanted it. But the thing was one of the most decidedly uncomfortable knives to use that I have ever handled. The checkering on the hilt was so extreme that it hurt your hand unless you were wearing gloves and the "horns" dug into your hand if you left them screwed into the guard. If you took them out, the only place to store them where you could be assured that they would not bget lost was in the hollow handle where they took up virtually all of the space within, IIRC, thereby rendering the hollow handle useless. :barf: :grumpy:

The smooth hilt on the Randall was to allow the user to wrap it in paracord so that he would then have the paracord available in an emergency survival situation, or so the old catalogue said, and I believe it.
