universal "dagger" definition

i have seen this word about the bladeforum.. so i was wondering what exactly constitutes a "dagger?" is it a fixed blade in all cases? what about a certain length? help
 
Nope, no universal definition. It's generally used to describe a blade with the point at centerline and double-edged. No certain length required, and a folder with the requisite shape will be said to be a folding dagger. Legally, many places define a dagger as any knife with two edges, which differs from the definition knife folks use.

I think the dagger is illegal in most states. Seems its also referred to as a 'Dirk knife' by some.

so the dagger is NOT consider the run of the mill knife... or just a variant of the run of the mill knife? anyone have any cool pics of their daggers? presuming it is NOT illegal to own them!

It all depends. Since double edged knives (the legal definition of dagger) are illegal in a lot of states, you don't see that blade type used as often. But you can still get cheapo daggers, it's just not as common.
 
A dagger should still be legal if one of the edges isn't sharpened....
Like the Benchmade Elishewitz/Darkstar.
 
dammit i want a dagger now.... anyone got any cool pics of them... the ones that have 2 edges on them?
 
Ken Warner (the owner of blackjack) has one of the coolest daggers I have ever seen. Both edges are curved in opposite directions so you can make a circular cut. This was invented in the middle ages to disembowel somebody. I am not advocating for disembowlment, but you should check this dagger out! Aus8 steel I think.

I have a BMade 530, billed as a 'dagger style' blade. The point is at the centerline, but only one side is sharp. It's a great style of knife: a pocketable folding dagger, so to speak. I really enjoy using this knife.

**WARNING** NOT SHEEPLE FRIENDLY (The BMade 530, that is).

if you read the state laws regarding knife carry, they all usually prohibit "daggers". dont know what all that means or what they are meaning by daggers but i always see that.

isnt that all knives girlymann? or is it no knives since all knives have SOMETHING to hold onto.. i think that definition is kind of vague

It is vague, but the phrase above is key. I imagine that a sharp point with both edges sharpened fits this, namely because of asking the question "What other kind of use would a pointed double edge knife have?"
 
I asked a LEO this last night here, anything that has both sides sharpened.

He said, that if it had a false edge that appeared sharpened even though it wasnt, he would would be inclined to challenge your possesion of it.

Clear as mud.

That's CA's definition, not applicable anywhere else.
