I found an unloved old hickory 8" slicing knife in a draw of stuff in the house when we purchased it. Yesterday I ask my wife if she used it? she didn't like the handle. So being bored I took it to the basement to play with this is what I ended up with .. I marked one line for the cut, To save the stamping then free handed it till I got a shape I liked. Cut it with dremel cut off wheels and shaped it with a dremel sanding drum Ended up being 3 5/8" blade 8 3/16th o.a.l.

I really like to use Old Hickory and similar type knives to start with. Nothing fancy (obviously) but cool to play with and reminiscent of the old mountain man blades.

Good looking blade. I like the sheepsfoot. Now use the snot out of it. I need to play with the torch a bit.

Great job. I like it.
As to who needs a point ? Just look that knife it has a point and a great one. It is just not
in the middle of the knife like a drop or clip point. It is pointy enough to pic out splinters.
I think you could drill with it just fine too.
cutting Card board would work great for it too.

Again great job.

Thrown together pocket sheath rides well and upright in either back pocket or the cargo pocket in pants fairly simple to make I have been using it since sat. and really seem to like it

Plum,
That sheath looks a lot like many of mine....functionality is king. My point, so to speak, is that the blade shape is generally very useful. I know Plum has a real winning "user" there.

I have a pitcher filled with Old Hickory knives. A couple butcher's knives passed down from my grandad. One really huge straight blade. A couple skinners I bought along with a cabbage knife.

Old Hickory get's lots of love at my house!

Nice mod to a good knife.

Thank you for pointing that out. I thought I was the only one that saw this.
Point well taken.

It started out as a bored sat. project But it has been in my pocket anytime I ain't at work . It is growing on me, It has a very strong useful point. It is a fine knife for cleaning squirrels. Since the paiute deadfall experiment is over so I'm going to start shooting them again after the current batch is gone:D
