Unpopular Knives?

I'm curious what CS model this is.

I don't see much of anything made by CSC on here (Forum knives excepted). So here's my mine:

It is extremely light and yet somehow feels very sturdy in construction. The blade (which is D2, a favorite of mine) is about as thin as I've ever seen on a knife and slices superbly.

Due to the height of the blade it is easily pinched open or can be opened one handed if the need arises by pinching it in the hand.

It is an exquisite knife and has much better lockup than my GEC #42. I can't believe I managed to snag it for $40 on the exchange. I can't imagine why these aren't more popular. Oh and I always thought presidentials didn't get enough love but now I see everyone else has one too!

As for the Cuban's I tried to find one awhile back, but they're sold out everywhere. Somebody must like them!

Here's my contribution. The Maverick stockman. I think it's the perfect size for EDC, has enough handle to do work, and a great blade selection.

IMHO, the GEC #99 really wasn't all that popular here, or on many other forums. I have to admit it took me a while to warm up to it, but after receiving what may be the last two new ones on planet earth from KSF, I feel the pattern really was given short thrift. Doing a search just on these forums, there is one dedicated thread with 51 replies, and compare that to the what makes a great Barlow thread that has over 10K replies. Anyway, I do hope the pattern makes a comeback, with additional scale options in smooth ivory bone, ebony, and black linen micarta.

I like my #99 F&F with my sanded Micarta covers. Great work knife.

I liked the 99 when it first introduced. I am very pleased to have opted for the Northfield in burnt stag.

That Northfield is a particularly eye-catching individual. What a useful blade array too. Bolsters could perhaps be a bit smaller though....

I always viewed the Congress and Stockman patterns as being slow sellers. I suspect KSF know from experience if my thinking is correct.

I believe GEC's first knives were the large trappers like the #23. My impression that it is probably a slow but steady seller. I know I like them, but prefer the #42 more.

I think sometimes it's the handle materials that are not popular on some GEC runs. It's not necessarily the patterns.

I think it's details like cover materials and shields that make the SFO's better sellers.

GEC often does the same thing on every pattern, probably to streamline production. Eventually GEC is going to run out of new patterns (they started from scratch) and I suspect they'll start paying more attention to the details.

I would have loved to pick up a F&F 99, but I was unable to find the micarta. Wanted the maroon linen micarta but.......no joy. I've been offered an OD by one of the forumites here. I might have to take him up on it.

I am one of those who is cover specific. I don't care how much I like a pattern, if I don't like the cover material, it is a no go for me.

Great Eastern Cutlery Hunter H10...if there ever was a fixie that has been ignored by virtually every knife related forum, it has got to be this one.

I think the Presidential is an outstanding knife. The blade rub is pretty minor and IMHO, really only a gripe for collectors because in real use it's insignificant. The Presidential is basically the spear version of the T. K. Cuban, with flattened handles. The T. K., interestingly, doesn't have blade rub because the clip blade is thinner due to the distal taper.

I was waiting for someone to finally mention the #65. I absolutely love this pattern. I don't have any pictures of them yet, but I recently was able to acquire a couple of super limited 2015 rendezvous parts knives in this pattern and I have to say they are probably my all time favorites. The 63 and 64 are very similar and I like them too, but the 65, with it's copperhead bolster, really knocks it out of the park for me. The 65 was one of the first GEC knives I bought 2 years ago and I still see quite a few of these languishing on dealer sites. It was a disappointment that they made the last run as bareheads..... I'm an end cap kinda guy..... the jigged bone on the rendezvous specials are outta sight though.

I think the length scares most people away from this pattern but it's actually very slim and slender. They're very pocketable.

Here's a spear in Buffalo horn and a clip in seashell perylic.

Spear in black gold.

Steve, I whole heartily agree. The #63 & #64's are very nice knives, especially the swing guards which are very cool. The #65's are the cream of the crop however. I own 3 of the initial run of lock backs and the stag may just be a couple of my favorites.

I was never a fan of the swing guard, but the people who love them really love them and the GEC ones were really nice.
