Don't forget it again. Could mean your life bro.

Yep. Sometimes it'll sneak up on ya.

I had to be in Chicago this week for business. Usually just under four hours via I-94.

We (co-worker and I) left Chicago yesterday afternoon. Weather was cold but clear. By the time we hit Indiana the lake effect snow had kicked in. Winter storms and an ice storm later on down the road (just west of K'zoo, MI) turned our four hour ride to an eight+ hour ordeal. We were stopped on 94 twice for more than an hour due to the roads being covered with almost 1/2" of ice. Made it home around 11:30PM EST.

We had a rental car with more than enough gas but I sat there thinking of the gear I had and the gear I should have brought with me.

I was wearing my Columbia 3/4 height hikers. While waterproof, they aren't insulated. They're more of a spring/fall hiker.

The only knives I had were my Spyderco Centofante III and a Leatherman Squirt P4. Neither one was exactly suited for emergency use. Maybe cutting a seat belt but not much else when stranded on the interstate in an ice storm.

Of course there were hundreds or other vehicles out there with us but it feels better knowing that you are self sufficient.

Glad you made it back to the office. Enjoy your lunch :p.

Good point. This forum has really helped me remember to have stuff in my truck. It was really cold this morning but I forgot my hat. But I had an extra in my truck. Unfortunately I forgot my gloves and had taken the ones I had in my "survival tool box" in my truck out earlier. I need to get those back in. And maybe an empty gas can.
