Unreal experience hiking today.

It really was crazy...that hawk would JUST miss me...i was diving out of the way, but if i could snap a quick picture i did...it is rare to capture such pictures of accipiters ( greek name of species) like the coopers hawk. Through my studies ( i used to want to be an ornithologist) different birds have changes the range in which they inhabit, due to the changes in the world and its weather patterns...that was an amazing experience though...i couldnt believe it.

Great pictures!
That remind me of when I was doing a duck study in the arctic, and while doing cliff top recon for spots that Eider ducks could access the ocean I had a Peregrine rise straight up in front of me as I was on the edge of the cliff (must have had a nest under me)! It and its partner took turns dive bombing me from opposite directions!! I had to flatten on my back as I tried to "crawl" backward while trying to keep an eye on both at the same time. They were very co-ordinated attackers, so much so that I had to hit one with the hiking staff I had as it got WAY too close. I hated hitting it, but I was on the other side of a 25KM lake 800KM away from a "town" so an injury would have been awful.

I keep trying to figure out where the pics are- just today Juli and I had a conversation of how in the city we could take so many pics that look like they are in the middle of nowhere.
