Unresolved Problem with Fanklyit

In April, I arranged a trade with fanklyit. We agreed to ship via USPS with Delivery Confirmation. He lost the delivery confirmation number, but I got the package and the trade was fine.

In early May, we arranged another trade - his BM Apparition for my SOG PE II. We agreed to trade via USPS with D.C. again. He got the SOG PE II just fine, but I didn't get my package when expected. He had lost the D.C.# again, but this time no package. He said it must have been lost in the mail and quickly agreed to return my knife. If he had been able to produce a delivery confirmation number, I would have just written it off to a lost package. However, he had again failed to send a delivery confirmation number, and I thought it was odd that he was so quick to suggest returning my knife. We agreed that he would return the SOG PE II.

By the middle of June, I still had not received the knife. At this point, I asked him to delay shipping it for a couple weeks as I was relocating and did not want to lose it in the process.

When I got relocated, I notified him of my new shipping address, but I got no response. Then, after I posted a thread for him to contact me in GB&U (search 'fanklyit', and you'll find the thread), he said that he really liked the SOG and basically gave me a choice of two knives other than my knife - a Kershaw JYD II or a BM Leopard, both worth less than my knife. I figured I'd cut my losses and said I'd take the JYD. He said he'd mail it to me. He has repeated this promise a couple of times over more than month. Still, no knife.
I e-mailed him last Friday (to three different e-mail addresses), but he has not gotten back to me.

He has experienced some personal problems / difficulties in this time period, and I'm sympathetic to these, but he has initiated and completed at least one other trade in the last month without completing our deal.

Am I out of line in expecting him to return my knife or send another knife?

Has anyone else had a problem dealing with fanklyit?

Nope, a deal is not completed until BOTH parties are happy, if he cannot provide DC numbers or proof of mailing it, he should have LONG ago returned your knife or provided a replacement.

You are not!!! Put it this way. If it was me..... I would either mail your knife back, or if need be, pay you an agreed upon value. It blows me away that some will let their reputation get tarnished over something as simple as getting a knife in the mail.

I do not think you are out of line at all. This guy needs to either send you your knife back, or a sum of money equal to the value of said knife, agreed upon by you. We all have personal hardships and tough spots in life, it's how you handle those situations that shows what you really are as a man in my opinion. I don't have a dog in this fight, and I don't know either party, but this seems pretty cut and dry to me.

A search revealed that he previously went by the username of harrymole. He had a pretty good track record until about June of 2006. Then he seems to have disappeared leaving some unfinished business.

tropheus posted about a problem here

rpaladin seems to have encountered a problem as well

I'm not sure what the procedure is to get a new username, but if it doesn't go through the proper channels, I think the mods kind of frown on it.

I decided to check some of the e-mail addresses. 'Fanklyit' - David Enke - is a member of several forums.

I came across the following thread at hardforum.com:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1147891

I found this by checking one of the e-mail addresses that he uses - maggiesdad02@yahoo.com.

Mr. Enke, what are you trying to do? If anyone had this much trouble with their local post office, why would they continue to ship stuff USPS?

This doesn't look good. It's odd that those earlier threads seem to have just been abandoned without any resolution ... maybe there were other threads at the time; I'll look....

Spoke with David on the phone today. He said that he has since moved out of his house due to bankruptcy

Good luck with resolving this, it doesn't give me good vibes.

I did some work and found "harrymole" on other website/forums. but he seemd to drop off the face of the earth about may thru june last year. I got a email from a system administrator at a email address he was using, saying it was a company he had worked at. He was not employed there any longer, and please stop filling up the system with querries to him , thank you very much... ;}

anyway I never did get happy for the computer I paid for...

I am wondering how he re-registered here.

I hope he makes all this right..
So far i see no reason to think this will happen however...

regards/ al

If Mr. Enke doesn't post here soon, I think I will report this to the USPS Office of the Inspector General. I don't think that they will take kindly to him committing mail fraud and pawning it off as their mistake.

I don't think any of those he's stiffed will get their knives/computers/money, but at least we can keep it from happening one anyone else.

In a previous thread on the harrymole problem, Bastid asserted that he could put someone in touch with people in Chattanooga. Bastid, if you're reading this, can you still do so?

I've decided to report Mr. Enke to the USPS if he hasn't sent me a workable solution to our problem by Tuesday. I think that this is more than fair.

Mr. Enke has not notified me of any attempt to resolve things.

An email has been sent to the Office of the Inspector General of the USPS.

Note: I have sent another email informing the Office of the Inspector General that Mr. Enke and I have resolved our dispute.

David Enke has resolved to issue to my satisfaction. I got a package from Mr. Enke today with a used Kershaw Blur and a like-new Kershaw JYD II.

I consider my problems with Mr. Enke to be resolved. If anyone else needs my assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Start your own thread and threaten him with some kind of action. :D Seems the only way he'll respond. :thumbdn:
