Hmm.;)

Wonder what knife he brought? Wonder what trail. Both long legged folks but if it only took them an hour to hike it must have been a relatively short one.

It's the President?

Spokesman Bill Burton said the Obamas met four fellow hikers, one of them an elderly lady who stopped to chat.

"Are you who I think you are?," the woman said, per Burton.

I want to know what knife he brought and if he had a firesteel;)

Nice forest. Good diameter trees.

I'm not far from there today. I'm danged glad he didn't screw up traffic. It was bad enough as it was.

Not sure what this has to do with surviving in the wilderness? Unless you're suggesting we all bring secret service along into the woods with us ;)

Is he "hiking the AP Trail" too? (Uh-oh)

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a photo of a Pres in the woods. I wonder if he does carry a pocket knife?
I would imagine he is like any other man and likes a break from things.

Wonder if they had to wear their suits:p

I just thought it was good the Pres was out there sort of pimping getting out in the woods. Then they have the organic garden and a couple hives of bees on the White House lawn so there's two things a lot of us like hiking and self sufficiency.

Sort of suprised me though given he's a city dude far as I can tell. But he did sign that bill that expanded several of the wilderness areas in my state, and created 2 new ones.

The wilderness areas here that were expanded were orignally signed into law by Ronald Reagan, somebody who I didn't vote for but who was a president who frequently allowed himself to be photographed enjoying nature was a true outdoors person, something I always thought was a good thing.

As a goatkeeper and goat milker I when I first joined the American Dairy Goat Association I was suprised to find Reagan himself was a member. Apparently he kept goats on his ranch in CA:thumbup:

Thats pretty cool. The commander in chief enjoying some dirt time. I can understand that.....All politics aside...

Of course they're unusual. They just left a crime scene. Now they circled around and know YOU spotted them
Now you gotta do the SERE stuff just to get outta there !
( Good thing too, cos you got a Bravo 1 , .357 mag. , and a compass.)

Things will work out ok.:p

Very interesting! That would be the last person I would expect to see on the trail! What a way to meet the president, coming back after a 3 day stay in the woods and not smelling so fresh!:p

Oh, so it wasn't Tiger Woods in the rough at Augusta?

We finally have a Pres young enough to get off his butt and get out there, 1st one since Ronnie was chopping wood.

Does a political post really belong in this forum? I think he had his wife with him, that would explain the rash of bigfoot sightings..

It's very common for city types to enjoy the outdoors just like everyone else. I would like to see the statistics of the number of urban dwellers that consider themselves hikers, I think it would be very high. Having grown up in a rural area and moved to the city what I have noticed is that most rural people are more outdoor sportsmen and hunt where as the city folk are most likely to just go out for hikes and camping trips to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. that is just my observations and not statistical fact

I was watching the pbs tv series on the national parks, and it talked about how Teddy Roosevelt ditched an official reception to spend a night with John Muir camping under the seqouias. TR also spent weeks at a time camping in other locations. It's hard to imagine a president in this day and age being able to get away like that.

Just think how frustrating it would be if every time you wanted to go for a dayhike or an overnight you'd have to bring along the secret service and 25 ways to communicate with Washington in case of emergency.

Nice to see that the current president values the outdoors, and the more times the Obama's get out, the better it is for protecting/managing our natural resources in the long run. Maybe they'll even inspire others to get out and enjoy the woods.
