Unusual Office Carry

I don't work in a office or anywhere else but am often in professional areas. Going through metal detectors can be a problem, so I would look for a ceramic knife if that was the case.

Well, I am at work with a BM 710 in my pocket. But unless I'm going to court, or doing a deposition, I can wear business casual, even jeans, to the office.

But this is hard to beat: A colleague of mine, also a knife & gun guy, a fear years back once left a 13" + Khukri in his briefcase and brought it in to work the next day. Sauntered right past court security, attended a hearing. We got back to the car and divvied up the file from his briefcase and there it was sheath and all in all it's Ghurka-esque glory, and he's like "Oh, s--t!"

I worked somewhere once and had an altercation with a female employee. She used the fact that I carried a folder as ammunition saying she felt threatened. That became the entire focus of the BS HR investigation.

I was forbidden to carry a pocket knife at work.

I had no worries my neck knife collection was a little weak at the time anyway :D

In a previous life as a production bench jeweler I worked for a high profile upscale jewelry/fine items type store I was told after 5 years that knives of any type were forbidden and i would have to divest myself of my CRKT Kiss immediately (TSA style) Turns out someone saw me in the break room with a bagel and felt threatened. Ironically one of the same persons that asked me to cut her bagel for her earlier. In the 25 plus years in the jewelry environment I always thought it weird that sharps were so frowned upon since it is the very environment where they were so handy. Also of note, the person insisting on me surrendering my small K.I.S.S knife continued to carry her SAK medium folder.

I left that world 5 years ago and my new chosen field as an MRI Tech Ive found no one cares what you have on you and even expect you to have something with a utility edge of some sort. Ive gotten away with all sorts of edged tools from a Fallkniven F1 for cutting foam and tape to any number of Spydercos like PM2, Para3 and Benchmades like Griptilian, Bugout etc. Their only request is anyone carrying anything ferrous leave it at their desk when entering the scanner room. 3t magnets have a way of taking these things from you in quite energetic ways.

I make nasty titanium tools for just such occasions.

I carry a few knives and a TOPS CUT 4.0 in the small of my back (ala Scout Carry) in an environment that is considered "combat casual". While we do go out 4-5 days a week to advise, our normal work environment is a compound with various offices. I work mostly with coalition members, Germans being the predominant force. It's ironic that my knife gets as much attention as it does considering everyone is carrying a handgun around. There's always interest in my automatic/OTF knives as most European countries have quite stringent knife laws. But yeah, people notice and most have an appreciation...at least in this "office" environment.

I work for a car dealership. Our entire service and parts departments' staff carry pocket knives, clearly visible by the pocket clips and gaping cargo pockets. I went in one day, on a day off, with my Coast 5" fixed blade Bowie to deliver a car to my aunt. A few fellow sales people commented on it, mostly just jokes ("man, you're Aunt must be one tough customer" and the like), but they also know I carry a gun daily to work. Two of them are women, one ex military, the other who just recently shot her first gun with her son during some sort of parents appreciation day during his college's frat week. Both are like mother figures to myself and a couple others there. Both said if it were anyone else they might question it a bit, but both admitted feeling more comfortable knowing that I was carrying. So seeing me with knives daily they just see it as it is, another tool for their tool man Josh.

I'm the guy who always has the tools everyone else needs. Flashlights, power drill, bits and extensions, tape measure, and a few other odd and ends. We're a very tight knit group of people, so we know each other's after work activities and ongoings. So I'm well known for being the outdoor guy and nifty tool collector. In fact I've given at least each person there one or two knives that I no longer wanted, being replaced by the stuff I've bought since participating here recently.

I get away with a lot, partially because of my very calm, cool and kind demeanor, but also my extremely unintimidating and almost feminine look. I'm tall but skinny, have very long eyelashes, and soft facial features.
