I am looking to replace the blade on my Benchmade 530 with a wharncliffe blade that is 2.42-2.45 inches in length. This is to make sure it is legal to carry in all 50 states and their respective municipalities. The current blade length of 3.25 inches is unacceptable in many places in Massachusetts and I believe New York, and the spear point seems to classify it as a weapon and not a tool in some places as well. Furthermore I am interested in a wharncliffe because of ease of sharpening and the fact that my daily work includes a massive amount of fine paper and light fabric cutting. Many people have recommended purchasing a different compliant knife but the handle contour of the 530 just works for me and some of the compliant options out there are frankly more threatening in appearance than the 530, and I would prefer to be able to use my knife for random tasks without having to carry an additional politically-correct knife.
I am aware that many people will do custom regrinds and shortening on stock blades. However, the taper of the spear point of the 530's blade precludes it from being modified to obtain the straight cutting edge that I want. I am wondering if there is anyone who can make from scratch a drop-in blade that meets these specifications.
